Design Toscano Bacchus Dancing Pan Faunus of Pompeii Roman Mythology Indoor/Outdoor Garden Statue, 33 inch tall, Cast Stone Resin, Green Bronze Finish

Put this on a small table as you enter my garden gate. Mr Faun( I am naming him Shawn) greets you amidst my flowering pots and my gurgling fountain. When I visited the Getty museum in Malibu years back, I discovered a bronze faun statue incorporating a pump and fountain into a stone basin. Magical and I was delighted to find Mr. Shawn Faun On a Chance exploration of curiousities on Amazon !!

Nicely detailed and the correct proportion of the original ancient sculpture in the Naples Museum from Pompeii. Considerable weight to it, but manageable. As we are artists, we gilded the statue, then applied a sealant to the original dark green finish, as a preferred option, though the original finish is well done. The quality of casting is wonderful compared to other resin or bronze reproductions we came across. Definitely would recommend this sculpture. Thumbs up!

The Faunus of Pompeii: definitely not a museum copy replica. Lacking definition in extremities and accuracy in the areas that are well defined (I.E. fingernail offset anatomically from finger). The patina is truly verdigris yet lacks depth to give it that bronze finish. If you look up close, it comes across like a cheap copy made from playdough (The one dimensional patina is at fault). The general overall appearance gives a proper impression of the original in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. Toscano has made better copies of this replica in the past. They need to rethink their creator source. China does produce good work if you don't let them get away with mediocrity (I have bought other sculptures from other Chinese vendors that are perfect). The advantage is that no one is producing this subject well, so Toscano can get by with it. I am keeping this copy for that reason. Hate to see Toscano go the way of Bombay and Company, I was a big fan of their merchandise as well, R.I.P.... Update: What a difference a patina can make!!! I refinished my $200 sculpture, adding highlights and covering the original cheap looking patina completely. It looks substantially better and more like the original (old) photo that Toscano put out of this product. See attached photo.
