Dura-Beam Standard Pillow Rest Air Mattress: Fiber-Tech

I bought this air mattress as a replacement for a sad, disappointing purchase of a new hybrid mattress, which I had to return because it was just too uncomfortable for me to sleep on. Since the modern hybrid mattress comes tightly bound in a box, it's a really big deal to have to return/refund. But since Amazon is amazing, I was helped over that hurdle. But it also prompted me to question whether I should take another chance on a "bed in a box." My brilliant idea was to replace the standard mattress (hybrid, foam, inner springs, etc.) with a contemporary air mattress. After researching the subject, Intex emerged as one of the best. I chose the 10-inch high Dura-Beam Standard in full size. I especially appreciated that it came with an enclosed electric pump. However, I ended up not keeping it. Why did I not keep it? First, it was immediately obvious that it was not suited for my bed frame with headboards. The built-in pump protrudes about two inches beyond the mattress edge, and this interferes not only with the placement of the mattress but also the movement of the mattress during sleep. Second, it had the "pillow rest," which did not make for a comfortable sleep, at least for me. Perhaps others might find that feature to be a plus, especially in a camping situation, but for me it made sleeping with a traditional pillow very uncomfortable--I ended up having to scoot down and dangle my feet off the end of the mattress to escape the discomfort of the built-in pillow rest. But, hey, that's just me. I did not give up on Intex, which is a reliable brand for this type of product, nor did I abandon the idea of sleeping on an air mattress as my main bedding. (After all, I'm old enough to remember the venerable water bed!) So I ordered a new bed frame, sans the headboards, and a new Intex air mattress (also with built-in electric pump) but without the built-in pillow. Still, I have to give the Intex Dura-Beam Standard Pillow Rest Air Mattress the full 5 stars. It is durable, the pump performs flawlessly, and (aside from my personal issue with the built-in pillow) it really is a comfortable mattress to sleep on. At no time was I ever concerned about any loss of air, or any fragility in the material. I can still recommend it.

The air mattress was perfect. We needed one more bed at a recent vacation. This mattress held an adult male and never lost any air. We did inflate and deflate daily. We are pleased with this purchase.

Comfortable and pretty sturdy. It does start losing air after awhile, but it's easy to top up.

Super cool, self inflated fast with electric built-in pump.

First time inflating and it inflates fully but does not keep air. Slow deflate over night. Cannot find a hole to repair. I feel a defect in one of the seams/ leaking. Past the return/exchange timeframe and unable to find a customer service link to inquire about an exchange.

Awesome deal !! Took them to Jamaica and they were excellent!!! Kids loved sleeping in them .. can’t beat a 3 for 1 deal !!

Very comfortable, firm... I will definitely be buying a couple more in the future.

This mattress was a bit of a disappointment. We usually buy the intex 10" that you manually pump. They last longer than most when you reuse them. This mattress has a decent pump that is handy, but the pump never fully inflates the mattress. The mattress has to be topped off at least once per day but does not get firm. After inflating the first time, it did not hold air. It was deflated significantly after a few hours. We've refilled daily after each use for about 4 days now. The other mattress type has a higher border around the mattress that keeps it flat. Since this one has the pillow built in, there is no border. Your body tends to roll off the sides and stays higher in the middle. It's very odd. Both people roll off the sides during the night! It's like you are in competition for the center of the mattress. It makes it uncomfortable to sleep on. It does have a nice plush top, and the pillow is comfortable. We will be going back to the simpler yet cheaper type that is super comfortable. I don't mind a manual pump.

Great value for the price. Very comfortable and easy to inflate and deflate with built in pump. Have it for company when they come from out of town and they were very pleased with it. High enough off the ground
