## Description

Product description

Review: Love this tire - Love this tire! Was originally running a 2.3 high roller II and was not pleased with the way it handled unless you aggressively leaned the bike. There were really no "transition" knobs on the high roller II, so mid turn on anything other than super tacky and the high roller would feel like it was squirming under me. Rode a new tallboy 3 for fun, which came with the 2.3 dhf and was super impressed. Knowing that I had just picked up some 30mm wide carbon rims, I decided to try the 2.5 for a front. I was not disappointed. When you buy these tires, make sure to read the part number and ensure you're getting the exact tire you need/want. They come in a lot of variations. I actually purchased one from another seller first, and they mis-listed the item as an exo dual compound - when I actually received a double down exo tire (literally 1500 gram heaviest tire they make). Now, i'm not a weight weenie or anything, but when you order a tire you want to make sure the compound and sidewall are going to work for the riding type you do. Dual compound is great for middle of the road tread softness. Not too hard to be super focused on rolling resistance, but not too soft to be a detriment to keeping speed. Typically, the dual compound is what comes on the stock DHF tallboy 3, so that's the way I went. I can say, after riding the double down casing, the standard exo casing is much grippier on hard pack. The harder the sidewall, the less compliant it will be to form around the terrain and obstacles you are riding. The exo protection on my old high roller was awesome for well over 2 seasons of riding, so I stuck with that and nothing more. Not to mention that the standard exo single ply is much lighter. Again, not a weight weenie, but I really noticed the difference putting this one on compared to the double down. the front just feels super nimble compared the the heavy double down - and thats saying a lot for a 2.5 front. Also note, this tire in the 2.5 29er form, though not always listed this way, is the "WT" tire - meaning wide trail sidewall design. Both DHF's had this, so I'm unsure if I can tell the difference this WT creates. They say it's a better rolling profile for 30-35mm - I've heard of lots of guys with 28mm internal going with WT as well. Overall, the single ply exo dhf is an amazing trail tire. If you're looking for something on the aggressive side of trail for a front, this tire has gobs and gobs of grip and really doesn't roll any worse than my high roller II 2.3. It doesn't roll quite as easy as a nobby nic, but it gives a ton more confidence and seems way more surefooted in any terrain you can throw at it. I paired this up with a 2.35 ikon exo rear, which I feel really balances the bike out for rolling speed & grip. was really surprised how well they worked together, even on dry dusty hardpack.
Review: Awesome front tire - I normally run Maxxis on my bike and wanted to get something more aggressive for my son's bike at 20 inches. His current bike is the Rei rev coop 20 inch mtb with 2.6 tires. So the change over was super easy, currently running tubes, but plan on going tubeless so I did get some smaller tubes. Installation was super easy. Compared to the previous tires the DHR 2 and DHF are a huge improvement in traction, little less cushion but not by much. I was hoping to reduce the inseam clearance by an inch or two and this change definitely did that. Additionally the tires just pop out they make the bike look so much better. Lots of pros and cons on the rei bike but I am here to review the tires and even though they were a little pricy it was definitely worth it and I would highly recommend getting better tires for your kids. I ran the dhr in the rear with the dhf up front. Have to say my son is in love with the way it looks and rides, and it has improved his confidence by having better traction.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: This tire is not the dhf downhill, correct? and in the options of width does not appear the 2,3 i believe that the option 29'' of the middle would be**
A: I Bought the 29” 2.5 and it is a great tire. Strong enough for super enduro...

**Q: Minimum rim width?**
A: DT Swiss has a good table for matching widths: https://dycteyr72g97f.cloudfront.net/uploads/W0X1900AEIXS012610/MAN_WXD10000000866S_WEB_ZZ_001.pdf. Looks like 20mm inner is minimum, but be careful on something that narrow: tire might feel floppy and probably has a better chance of burping if you're running tubeless through harsh rocks. Haven't tried the tire on my WTB i23s yet, but those rims feel great tubeless with 2.35

**Q: Is the tire folding or is it a wire bead?**
A: Folding, and it is an excellent tire! Glad I bought it.

**Q: This is probably a dumb question, but would this tire fit a 29" Genesis Astra Cruiser Men's Bike? I need tires badly for my bike.**
A: No, I believe this tire will be too wide for your bike and will not have the needed clearance between the fork, chain stays and seat stays. Look at the sidewall of your current tires and check the width. It is most likely something like 2.1 or maybe 2.25. I couldn't find any specs on it checking online.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Grippy, quality tires for Mountain Bikes.
*by L***S on January 10, 2026*

Purchased this tire for the font to match my DHR II in the rear of my Mountain Bike. It is grippy and perfect for blue and black downhill trails. The tires are wide and knobby and are thick enough to be durable. They are not fast rollers but have more grip.
