How to Make 50 Fabulous Kumihimo Braids: A Beginner's Guide to Making Flat Braids for Beautiful Cord Jewelry and Fashion Accessories

This book is Amazing!!
I am new to Kumihimo. Bought several 'Beginners' books and devoured them. But this book, which deals with flat braids, blows them all out of the water. It comes with a square plate which is an attractive laminated piece. There is a basic overview of Kumihimo techniques and supplies which is quite informative. The book also has several beginning and finishing techniques, most of which did not appear in any of the other books I found. But then you get to the meat of the book, which is the multiple patterns. They are written clearly, informatively and there are tons of pictures!! Each pattern has a "You Will Need" section that tells you exactly how much of what you will need. It tells you the best way to prep your plate and threads, then takes you step by step through the braiding process. When you're finished, it recommends proper finishing methods. Each pattern features a "better braiding" block that offers suggestions on how to take your project to the next level. It also shows you back and front photos so you can check your progress and make sure you're on the right track. There are 3 full pages on how to add beads to your work, as well.I really can't say enough about this book. It has given me the confidence to attempt fancier braids that I doubt I'd have attempted without the support. If you are looking to expand your Kumihimo into flat design braids, this is the one you want!!

Well Done
This is a very well written and illustrated. Great for many types of projects from bookmarkers too beaded necklaces. When I purchased the book I also purchased a square loom; what I didn't know was that there are differences in looms. This book uses a loom that has numbers 1 through 12 at the top and bottom; the loom I bought has 1 through 10; so that threw me off a bit. I'd suggest to buy the "right loom" so everything looks the same as it does in the book. The cardboard loom that is included with the book is numbered 2 through 11. (yes, the numbered 1 through 10 certainly works, just doesn't match the book).

Good book on flat kumihimo braids
This book is a good companion to "Twist, Turn & Tie - 50 Japanese Braids" by Beth Kemp. It is devoted to flat braids made with a kumihimo plate. Unfortunately, the copy I received was bound upside down, so that the front cover is on the back, and upside down. I tried to get a copy correctly bound instead, but the original publisher asked me to write to the publisher who had bought the rights for this book, and this second publisher sent me on to a third publisher, who told me this was not their problem. So I won't be buying any book from any of these 3 publishers again any time soon!

... the big loom for this art and after getting comfortable with that I could not find this book which ...
I lost this book after getting it and doing two of the projects in it and then got the big loom for this art and after getting comfortable with that I could not find this book which has some great flat patterns it which I was not ready to tackle until after I felt comfortable with the other patterns. I have tried using wire however found myself getting too frustrated so I decided to back up and start from the beginning as is how we generally learn things instead of starting at the middle as wire is harder to control at times when making some patterns. I highly recommend this book for those whom are interested in patterns and in achieving new patterns and new ways of making old things and new things. In my head I can see dresses made like this as I am sure you have seen the shoes. ;)

Excellent second braiding book to get.
A really good book about braiding shows me how to do something new that I find interesting. This is a really good book. I've learned several flat braiding techniques from it that I find pretty. Also has a section on finishing your braid, another area that I need help with. I recommend getting Beth Kemp's other book on round braiding first, then get this one. I find flat braiding more technically difficult, and more interesting. Get good at some round braids first, then get this book to jump start your flat braiding. Her other book is, "Twist, Turn & Tie 50 Japanese Kumihimo Braids."

Love
Absolutely love this book! The designs, design of book itself, patterns. Some i've had trouble with, but all are worth trying. The ones I've done turned out great. Recommended.
