Natural Dyes
Priceless source for people into natural dyes. Its pretty exhaustive and goes well beyond the usual historic dyes. It covers dyes common and obscure from more than just Europe. That being said, it could really use more information on Japan and China and other areas. However it does far more than the vast majority of dye books. An absoluter MUST HAVE for any dyer's library.

Complete natural dyes
This book is very comprehensive. Very complete, very easy to read and easy to understand. I highly recommend this book for both beginners as well as people who have experience in the field of natural dyes.

Worth the price
There are many books out there on natural dyes but this is by far the most extensive in terms of identifying different dyestuffs used throughout the world. Written accessibly, but with scientific rigor, it is packed with information including diagrams of chemical structures and botanical and common names for a huge number of dyestuffs. It is organized by color, so if you want to know about all the different madder plants used world wide and their methods of use they are all in the same section. You can use it as you would a dictionary--in other words it is easy to reference--but also very thorough, and includes lore and traditions as well as scientific information. If you are a beginner looking for a straightforward how-to-book this isn't it. But if you are interested in long term, serious study of dyestuffs and techniques it is the most complete information you can find, and an essential addition to your book shelf. I eagerly awaited this book's translation into English and paid more than the current price--but it was and is well worth it.
