A useable smartphone at last.. Not as big as a TV or grand piano + the battery lasts 3-4 days.
Finally got a smartphone as the 3g network where I live will be turned off before long, also because modern life is at the point where it's assumed you own one of the infernal contraptions now (QR code scanning etc). Picked this one as; (i) it's not too big, you can hold and operate it with one hand. (ii) Battery lasts a long time (iii) It's rugged enough for the casually clumsy (me) I'm impressed. I've tried a few before and they have always hit the wall at high speed during the first week or two of use. This one has done almost nothing that annoyed/frustrated me - a fact I am amazed about. Texting is not that difficult, it works well given the size of the screen, besides which you can always just talk the text message - and it will type it for you. It's a bit heavy (I assume due to the big battery and rugged casing), but I don't really mind as I'm not a millennial phone zombie. Therefore the phone is not permanently glued to my hand while I update the endless report that is faceache or post pics of my dinner on instafool. The weight is therefore immaterial. Looks and feels good build quality (if that matters). Very impressed with the battery life. I have been letting it drain entirely between 1st and every subsequent charge as I think that may help battery life (?), anyway.. its a good 4 days between charges. Only thing I haven't sorted yet is how to de-program the red button on the side. That button is currently the torch - I want it to do nothing. I guess I'll figure that out sometime. It probably helps that I have had an android tablet for the last two years to get used to the way these things behave. No doubt it suits lots of different parts of the smart phone market - the part it's suiting in this instance is for someone who only adopted a smartphone reluctantly and out of necessity. Oh yes - I very much like having Audible on it - now I can have a book read to me while out walking. (it has a 3.5mm phone jack). Speakers are very powerful when listening around the house. Overall very happy and impressed with the phone (and astonished to be writing that about any smartphone) Ermmm... That's it.

not very rugged
My expectations: fit the pocket better, decent performance, long-lasting battery capacity, solid ruggedness, poor camera detail; Delivered: - fit the pocket: it's ok, but it's a bit thick when it could've been slim - see below; - performance: no issues there - compared to my former full / used Nokia 5, it's fluid / instant; - battery: expectations delivered; - ruggedness: dropped the phone on the street first few days and the screen broke in the corner. it's not bad, but it's got those fine broken lines. So all I'm thinking is all of that extra padding that makes it so thick, when it could've been slim and of the same ruggedness; - camera: definitely better than expected - very decent detail, miles above my former Nokia 5. My conclusion: I'd've better saved for a brand foldable - would've been as thick but at least justifiably so. Good phone otherwise if you don't mind it not being in fact rugged much, for the money - better value than the Nokia was when I got that. Text can sometimes feel small but if you've got hawk eyes like I do it doesn't hurt the eyes unless you want to read books on the phone. It's probably the perfect thing for younger people who need a device according to their size.

Great phone - not rugged
One of the best phones I've ever used, had the original atom at first but wanted something slightly bigger, everything about the phone is perfect. Great screen, battery etc etc, however the metal plate at the back is now sticking out exposing the camera, not had the phone long or used it in any harsh environments so it's either a defect or the phone is not as rugged as suggested. So cannot recommend at this point

very impressive phone for the money
I've only had it a few hours so this is first impressions. This phone is amazing quality for the money. It is VERY well made and very solid. It has something of the expensive watch about it ! It operates well too. Very easy to use . Android 10 . Had no problem shifting all my stuff from old phone on to it. Camera's decent too. It doesn't seem to have any surplus apps etc , very simple clean setup. 3 different satnav systems and an fm radio - fair play . A toolbox full of useful stuff, including speedometer, plumb bob, magnifier , bubble level, speedometer etc. It has the feel that whoever made this phone genuinely cares deeply about it ! and only £239 ?!?! I just spent £120 on cheapo android phone 6 weeks ago, dropped it in a stream trying to take photo of my children for about 2 seconds literally and it ceased to work, hence looking for something more robust and came across this. If someone showed me this phone and told me it was £500 I wouldn't bat an eyelid and would still buy one for that ( if I had £500 - which I don't ). Unbelievable !!

Bigger than anticipated
Arrived on time and all looks good. Unfortunately, this phone is a lot bigger than anticipated. I wanted a 4 inch screen as I am not into these big smart phones. Yes I checked he dimensions on line before ordering, but honestly as much as it is a 4 inch screen, the casing and the body of the phone is a lot bigger and this is a very thick phone and I would struggle to use with one hand. So not even started it up, just re-boxed it and sent it back. I am sur eit is a great phone for those that like larger handsets, but not for me.

Great little phone that punches well above its price point.
So far so good and I'm about 3 weeks in to life with the Atom_L. Battery lasts a day with about 4 hours of screen time (browsing and messaging but no gaming and very little video) and about 3 hours playing audio through earphones. Screen could be brighter but even in bright sunlight it's readable. I've had no issues with responsiveness as some people report. First day I (accidentally) dropped it on a corner from about 5ft and it bounced with no damage. I haven't "tested" the water resistance yet either accidentally or on purpose. I'm a long time Android user so find the interface easy to use and pleasantly bloat free (for the most part). I've installed Nova Launcher to make it even more familiar and so far, all of my go to apps work with no problems. I'd obviously be happy if it were slightly smaller and lighter but, all in all, I'm very happy with my little Atom_L.

Small and good battery but weak screen

Functionality not as smooth as I'm used to.
Not as well thought out as a Samsung or other major trade marks. Does the job well enough.

Excelente telefone! Faz exactamente o que é suposto. Recomendo!
A camera é bastante razoável. Recomendo!

Mi ricorda, come sensazione, i vecchi Nokia 3310 indistruttibili.

A good and practical phone that is rugged -Be careful on compatibility with cell twr updates
This UPDATES MY REVIEW. MARCH 2022, I used mine with Consumer Cellular. With a drop of 3G my phone worked on Data, but not did not process calling. CC and local reps at Target could not fix what they said to be a SIM card incompatibility. And that forced me to buy a sleazy new phone. I like my Atom L much better. Be wary of this problem and if anyone has better advice please provide info. ---------- Orig review -----------My first smart phone was a petite Atom which I liked. This continued to work following ocean immersion. As I became a heavier user I needed a larger phone with higher capacity battery. The Atom L met that requirement. Although a larger size it is still not too big and the larger screen, especially keyboard, is nice. It seems very rugged and has other added capabilities (over the Atom) such as SD card compatibility. The camera is very good. I use Consumer Cellular and some system settings had to be changed to download data with easy tech support of CU, I found a nice rotating clip case by Turtleback (for iPhone 5/5S/SE) that is a perfect fit (itemA-PMPVerSMExtHDL2). Other on-line reviews cover the phone in more detail. Overall a good practical phone that is not fragile. The owner manual is a bit too minimal. That should be improved. An update a year later - still working fine with good battery life. Yesterday after dark dropped it off the end of a pier in sea water. Using a crab net I recovered it this AM and after a period it seemed to recover fine and tests our OK and seems to be fully functional again. I would buy this again. I think a good choice for heavy duty use where a basic, non-glitz, smart phone is the requirement.
