I had to enlarge the lampโs 3/8โ hole using 25/64โ bit
The hole in my decades-old LEDU swing-arm task lamp was 3/8โ diameter (0.375โ) but the Pass & Seymour 4155-BPCC5 shaft is larger at 0.385โ. I drilled using a 25/64โ bit (0.3900625โ) but alternatively a round file or Dremel should work. The Leviton switch being replaced was smaller at 0.368โ; that Leviton was from an earlier replacement, i.e., it was not the LEDU factory switch. Tip: while drilling, I stuffed some masking tape inside the LEDU bulb housing to trap the metal fragments on the adhesive. The P&S shaft is keyed (has a flat spot) to keep it from rotating as the switch is turned or the light bulb is inserted/removed. This did not matter in my case because the LEDU factory hole was unkeyed โ perhaps if I had filed rather than drilled I could have introduced a small flat spot in the hole. But tightening the included nut should be sufficient. The old Leviton switch included an interior shaft nut in addition to the exterior shaft nut so the length of the protruding shaft could be minimized if desired. The P&S includes only the exterior nut. And the old Leviton nuts (interior & exterior) did not fit the Pass & Seymour; YMMV. Switch operation seems fine. Longevity is TBD; I installed the P&S yesterday. As of 2024.07.06, at least two P&S reviews complain of failure in less than one month (but the Leviton 4551-51 also receives complaints about quality). In 2024.06 I paid US$2.81 for the P&S which was less than half the price of the Leviton 4155-51. The user reviews were about the same. I did not subtract a star because (a) I am unsure of current international practice for sizing the shaft and (b) the P&S competitive price offset the hassle of having to drill out the hole (i.e., all needed tools were near at hand). To have spares on hand I purchased four P&S 4155-BPCC5; I have six incandescent-socketed swing-arm task lamps (LEDU, Alvin). Hopefully, the switches will last longer because 100W-equivalent LED bulbs put out less heat than 100W incandescents. BTW, after three years of relying on LED-bar type swing-arm task lamps (adjustable for intensity and color) I recently replaced them with my old incandescent-socketed task lamps, which had been in storage, because my old eyes much prefer the increased brightness of the 100W-equivalent 5000K Great Eagle bulbs (5000K for task lighting; 2700K for around the house). Plus the older Alvin and LEDU swing-arm lamps have longer arms than the LED versions. (My 2024.06 search for additional incandescent-socketed swing-arm task lamps was disappointing. My Alvin G2540-B model is no longer sold and user reviews of alternatives left me concerned about the quality of current designs, particularly the strength of the mounting hardware between the swing arm and the bulb housing. User reviews also revealed that more expensive (e.g. double the price) did not necessarily mean better quality in this category. Also, do not assume that the swing arms are as long as older models.)

Repair damaged Socket
Product was easy to install. Unplugged lamp from wall socket. Removed old socket unit with screwdriver and cut out damaged wiring till clean copper visible Stripped off plastic shielding on wires, carefully mounted wires to socket then tightened screws. Repair took couple of minutes, lamp back in action. Have been using lamp for several months now, no problems with the replacement socket. Item was very reasonably priced

Cheap fix for an old table lamp
As often is the case a goose neck lamp on my work bench worked one day but not the next. Despite it being more than 25 years old it still served my needs very well. I installed this replacement socket and the lamp is good for another 25 years.

Great replacement for the broken mechanism in my thrifted lamp!
Found a lamp I really liked at a thrift shop. The mechanism was sketchy but worked until it crumbled to pieces. It was super easy to replace it with this cheap kit and the lamp is good as new!
