Deborah…Excellent Novel!
Beautifully written story of what life could have been like for Deborah, The Prophetess. Violence for the people of Israel, intrigue with the characters, romance, courage through God’s messenger, Deborah, the war won against enemies, all led by God. Excellent novel!

I love the way that even the chief characters who - ...
Biblical Characters That Touch Your Heart"The Prophetess" is a remarkable book that does more than make Biblical characters come to life - the story by this remarkable author touches our very hearts in its retelling by this gifted narrator. I find the story inspiring for even in my own life as I read it, I am questioning the will of God in my own life. The story seems authentic and lifelike, perhaps because the characters are very real in the way that they evolve and change over time, in the way that they reveal their faults and either change - or not. I love the way that even the chief characters who - like the rest of mankind - sometimes have doubts about God's presence in their life when storm clouds of uncertainty and adversity hover overhead. Jill Eileen Smith makes characters of faith come to life, not only teaching us of the Biblical characters and making them seem human, but showing how God works through them despite their faults and weaknesses. This book seems truly inspired and led by a person with the eyes and heart of faith. Now more than ever, we need stories of faith such as this for a very troubled world. I look forward to more audio book versions by this great author and gifted narrator.

Very Nice Historical Biblical Novel
The research behind the writing of this novel must have been enormous. I loved the detail of how people (tribe/clans) lived in that time period. The characters are also well-developed. However, one aspect of the novel became an annoying "noise" for me as the main character, Deborah, struggled with her personal feelings toward her husband. Thee was just too much repetition of those feelings and it distracted me from the true story of this novel -- accepting, trusting and holding on to Faith in God. I do recommend this novel for young adult and adult readers who enjoy discovering more about this time in history and who are also building their own Faith.

Excellent read!
Jill Eileen Smith manages to weave the true biblical account of Israel's only female judge into a rich and interesting story! I read it in 2 days, I just couldn't put it down. Walk with Deborah around her little village and take in the sights and sounds of what it must have been like to live so long ago. Sit with her as she delves out the mercy and judgement of the Almighty. Feel her pain as a mother of adult children and get ready to feel completely captivated by Smith's supporting cast of characters as they all face their fears and deal with the threat of terrorism as their doorstep. Smith uses a imagery and imagination based on the Bible story found in Judges. Yes buy this book and read it -- it is rich and full of profound truths we can understand and take to heart!

excellent
Again this author shows a likely scenario and tale of the time period, individuals, and people groups. I really enjoyed being there for all of the joys, sadnesses, conflicts and reconciliations. The detailed way of describing several characters prevented a narrow view of just a single person.

Improbable Plot, Unlikable Prophetess
I was intrigued by a tale set in this ancient time and read the promo material with great interest which led me to believe that this would truly help me understand the period better. I was quite disappointed. The possibility of a village remaining hidden in the woods, undetected by Sisera for TWENTY YEARS (the length of time he harassed Israel) in a geographical area as small as Palestine is so laughably improbable that it was really hard to be drawn into the fear of that biblical crisis. They had to remind the children to be quiet lest one of Sisera's men hear them and discover their village? Pleeeeze. Might work for a few weeks. At about 50 miles wide max, a man could easily walk across it in what, 12 hours? Sisera's army had chariots and horses. Surely, they crisscrossed every inch of that land in their twenty-year domination.Secondly, Deborah was too whiney a protagonist for me to ever really care about. One would expect a prophetess to have a little more insight into others, to be a wiser woman who would learn to value her husband's good qualities sooner than the decades it took. I slogged on to the end and did find some redeeming scenes, but those two detractors were pretty overwhelming to me.

A courage woman
The author has given a woman with such short biblical history a more in depth life. This is really well written and makes you look at current wars happening now, you can easily imagine the times of judges. What it must feel living in fear and no hope? Being a woman and called to lead when all have given up hope. Only by God anointing was she able to do his work. God doesn't discriminate and is able to use anyone regardless of their background . Great inspiration to know that we are able to go through anything, because God strengthen us.

Satisfying
I appreciate the way that Jill approaches the story Deborah, her integrity when it comes to the biblical story, and her artfulness when dealing with intimate moments between lovers. I also enjoyed the way Jill draws and holds you in another time period, in another part of the world, so foreign to where I live, and yet the timeless truths of values and principles are so eloquently brought out. Jill is a wonderful story teller.

God can use anyone in his/her weakness
I was in awe through the entire book thinking about how God shows His strength through our weakness. Rather than using a strong warrior, He chose to use a lowly wife. Oh to be used of God like that today!! I also loved the closing of the book and the joy of the bride while waiting for her bridegroom. Even so come Lord Jesus! Absolutely loved this book!
