Overall great controller for the price , it does have the d sp core inside , which helps the sound quality , but to difficult to set up , mapping and setting it up was the hardest part , would recommended. For the price

I got a used VMS4.1 unit (~$250) as a Christmas present half a year ago with the intention of using it with Mixxx on a Linux laptop. After a lot of learning and struggling, I am happy to say that this device performs awesomely with Linux if you have a little patience and an extra $10 lying around. The provided maps with Mixxx work just fine, and the controller is very responsive. Construction feels very professional for the price, It's weighty to the point that it feels like it won't break easily, but won't be an absolute chore to move around. I have yet to notice any real problems with the internal sound card, it works just fine either on 4-OUT or 8-OUT mode. The extra $10 I mentioned is for a powered USB port like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Protronix-Port-USB-Power-Adapter/dp/B00REX6DRK/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1434402473&sr=1-3&keywords=powered+usb+hub. I had a lot of issues with pops and crackles rearing their heads in the Master output, and someone on the forums suggested I buy a powered USB hub to remedy the problem. Plugging the device into the powered hub instead of directly into my laptop fixed this problem. Shame it just took me half a year to figure it out.

So originally, this was a one star review. After a few e-mails with American Audio's customer support, I am bumping this up a few stars. The VMS4 does work well with Traktor, the feel is great, and the features are fantastic. The one star they did not get was ease of use. There is not much info on setting it up to work with Traktor in the user manual or on the website. It was only after multiple e-mails with customer support that I was able to get the info I needed to get it working. It's a great buy, but resources for setting it up are not easily accessible.
