## Description

Olive Nation organic hazelnut extract is a great way to add the pure taste of hazelnuts to your recipes. It is naturally gluten-free and certified Kosher. Hazelnut extract can be used in cakes, cookies, frostings and icings. Use it to make homemade hazelnut ice cream. Three ounces is enough to flavor five gallons of ice cream. Try adding 1 teaspoon of hazelnut extract to your favorite yellow cake mix. Blend the ingredients and bake per the cake's directions, frost with chocolate buttercream icing to make a delicious chocolate-hazelnut cake. How to Make Hazelnut Flavored Coffee Hazelnut extract is perfect for making hazelnut flavored coffees and lattes. It can be added directly to brewed coffee or sprayed on the beans prior to grinding. Add 1/2 teaspoon of hazelnut extract to flavor 10 - 12 cups. of brewed coffee. When applying to the whole coffee beans, use it at a level of approximately 3.00% by weight.

Review: It's a liquid, not a thick syrup. - Even though it is a liquid it does not leak. It has a dark color and a strong flavor of hazelnut. It mixes very well in drinks and pancake batter. It is a very fine quality hazelnut for the price, and the amount will last you a fair amount of time, depending on the frequency of usage. For coffee drinkers, the small bottle can last you for about 4-5 weeks if you use half a teaspoon a day. The small bottle is not that big, it can fit easily in the cupboard.
Review: Great for coffee - I bought this for my coffee. It's very good. I wanted a less processed product. The flavor isn't that strong but it's real tasting. It's great with heavy cream.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How can this be "pure" when the first ingredient is poison? And what does "caramel coloring" mean?**
A: The caramel colorant comes from beets, and alcohol occurs in nature, so let's cool our jets here, folks; something to be more concerned about is if it is made with actual nuts or is rather an artificial/imitation flavoring. Furthermore, one should be concerned about that distinction not because of "scary chemicals" but in fact due to the complex combinations of chemicals found in said actual nuts which is impossible to replicate to a T, therefore making it an inaccurate representation of the flavor one is after. This is best described by the example of imitation Vanilla flavorings which focus mainly on vanillin, or C8H8O3 (a chemical bond of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen) which is the primary chemical, one of very many, found in the vanilla bean as a natural occurrence. This, when synthesized in a lab, makes a flavoring that is as akin in flavor to vanilla beans as a photo of a person's face is to the original, in that you can tell who it is, but it lacks the depth and dimension of the actual person. As for the caramel colorant, a major component to the culinary experience is the inclusion of all our senses, which includes vision. Looking back to Crystal Pepsi, we can see that a chemically identical product which lacks the visual cues of what one expect will produce a negative placebo effect, even if the compounds one's tongue is physically able to detect are all exactly the same. If the coloring is less brown than we expect, per the coconut effect, it will fail to satisfy the visual aspect of the experience, hence the use of the aforementioned beet-derivative colorant. It's authenticity of flavor that I'm after, so I'd like to dispense with the unfounded woo-woo hearsay. That said, I'll be ordering a bottle to make my own Torani coffee syrup, thanks. It's not as easy as vanilla, can't pack a mason jar with refined sugar and a hazelnut as you can with a whole vanilla bean. (Let sit one month, use in any recipe that calls for sugar and vanilla, or to sweeten coffee.)

**Q: can i see a complete ingredient list? in comments below it mentions propylene glycol, which i do not see listed above in ingredients.**
A: The hazelnut extract does not contain propylene glycol (PG). It is made with organic alcohol, natural hazelnut extractives, caramel coloring (PROP 65 Compliant) and water.

**Q: Is there hazlenut extract without the alcohol? I don't want alcohol in my almond milk!**
A: There is alcohol, i suspect more so as a preservative but it dissipates when used. You only use a partial teaspoon and there's no way to get a buzz. I believe all the extracts, like vanilla use alcohol as a preservative

**Q: Can you use this to flavor home roasted coffee beans?**
A: You can indeed use the hazelnut extract to flavor your coffee.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for coffee

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ about 6 drops needed to flavor my coffee cup, MUCH CHEAPER than hazelnut syrup
*by B***R on March 14, 2019*

I bought this specifically to find a less-costly replacement for 12-ounce Torani brand sugar-free hazelnut syrup from my grocery store, where it was about $5.00 (It's $12.00 here on Amazon ! ) One Torani 12-oz bottle of syrup would last me about a month, using about 1/2 ounce daily. Figuring that one 8-oz bottle of this extract = 256 ml, and one ml = 20 drops, and I use 12 drops per day (6 drops per cup, 2 cups of coffee per day), then an 8-oz bottle of extract should last me over 400 days, or about 14 months. Crikey! On top of that, this purchase was for 2 8-oz bottles, which was the minimum order, for $11.00, which may last about 3 years, vs. $5/month with Torani. So heck yeah, it's way cheaper to get some hazelnut in to your coffee with straight extract. Now, it tastes good, or I should say, good enough. It's different than Torani hazelnut, which is somehow sweeter or something, but this extract does the job to mask the coffee bitterness. I dispense drops into my coffee with a medicine dropper. Best wishes to all.
