(As an aside, phantom power does not damage dynamic microphones when hooked up using an xlr to xlr cable, it has no effect.) A pre amp would amplify the signal produced by the mic - in theory a good pre amp might amplify the signal better - with less noise. But then you would have the issue of what to plug the preamp into - whatever source you are plugging this mic into now would expect to amplify the mic signal, not receive a mic signal amplified by a preamp. There are work arounds for this, but they are probably not practical for a $15-20 mic. Switch needs quality improvement. *by A***W on June 23, 2025* Excellent mic when it comes to the sound it reproduces which is good. I had to buy a wired mic for my Karaoke machine as the wireless mics cut out at certain high frequencies/notes. This mic has zero issues on that front. It's constructed of good materials except for the switch. The switch broke on my first one when inserting it back into the microphone holder I also purchased for it on Amazon. So CARE must be taken to protect the switch. I kept this one to use as a spare and purchased another due to the sound and functionality being up to my standard. I had to take one star off for the switch. This shouldn't be a show stopper for anyone. You just have to pay attention when using it and handle with care when putting it back on the holder.
