Are the pants loose in the legs? I would prefer that. I'm hippy with larger thighs.

I would say that are not really loose in the legs. They are not tight, but they are definitely not what I would call loose.

I am 5'3" and 135. I am short-waisted, so my measurement is about 30". The small should fit you fine.

If I’m five foot and weigh 104 would an XS fit well?

I'm 5'1", 105lbs, 25" waist, 33.5" hips - got the XS in black and it fit perfectly even for the inseam length. I almost would've liked it a half inch longer for better ankle coverage while hiking. Hard to tell if this'd be too tall for you, as it depends on the height of the shoes you plan to wear with it. (I ended up returning this as I dislike super high rise pants. This went right on top of my belly button.)

Can anyone tell me the depth of the side pockets? Checking to see if it's long enough for my phone...

Pockets on both sides… one Velcro flap, one zippered. Both are about 6-3/4” deep. Definitely large enough for a cell phone… I put my iPhone 11 in there. Great pants!
