Can you stand on this ottoman, I am 170 pounds?

You can. I am 150. But....I don't recommend it for long periods of time. This Ottoman is very cheap. If you plan on using it to step on quite a bit, I would buy something else that has a metal or wood frame. I wish I did.

Is the top Hinged or do you have to take it completly off each time you want to put something into it?

You have to take the top off each time. It is not hinged.
