Hold That Ghost

Is everybody happy?
I can't believe I'm quoting Ted Lewis in my review title--seeing as how Ted & his so called "singing" might be the only pox on an otherwise outstanding Bud & Lou feature. It's really hard for me to decide on my favorite A & C picture between "Hold That Ghost" and the later, legendary "Meet Frankenstein" movie.I wonder if it's mere coincidence that my 2 favorite Bud and Lou features are both "Scare Comedies"--meaning Lou Costello was given ample room to display his great scare reactions, such as the classic "moving candle" routine or the great "changing rooms" scene. Of course, in both instances Bud never sees just what exactly is scaring the wits out of Lou--making it all the more funnier.Other favorite moments include the opening of how the boys are introduced--as Mischa Auer's character overhears what he thinks might be a stickup only to find his 2 new relief waiters playing craps. And the end of the film where Mischa is now working for Bud & Lou but still intimidating Costello. And I would be remiss not to mention the fantastic teamwork & chemistry of Costello and Joan Davis. Watching those 2 together in this film, it only baffles me that Joan wasn't brought back for more A & C pictures. If you like Abbott and Costello, then you will definitely enjoy "Ghost" and it's not bogged down with too many of the singing and dancing numbers which would weigh down some of their earlier features.5 stars

Wrong Region
USA DVD players can not read this CD since it is for region 4. Unfortunately I didn't realize this till it was past the return window. Why is it even being sold in this market? Very disappointed.

Sold useless Region 4 DVDs
I purchased "Abbot & Costello - Hold That Ghost" and "Abbot & Costello Meet the Killer" DVDs soon after Halloween 2021 with the plan to watch them at Halloween in 2022. I didn't check them after I received them assuming they were ok, but I just tried to play them and found out they are for Region 4. They are useless in US equipment. I'm out of the time to return them. These SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SOLD in the US. Crooks

1940's FUN AT THE "BIJOU"
ONE OF THIS TEAM'S VERY BEST with Joan Davis and the Andrews Sisters as added treats!Add "WHO DONE IT" for a great double-bill of old-fashioned A/C fun. JOAN DAVIS, almost as popular as "LUCY" in her day, almost forgotten now, is a "SCREAM" and every moment she's around is choice. You'll wish there was EVEN MORE of her! It's GHOSTS & GANGSTERS and ABBOTT & COSTELLO in a spooky remote old roadhouse, thrown together by "dire" circumstances, who need to find stolen money fast, without tripping over each other, or ending up dead.Welcome surprise is the effective moody light and shadow photography. Adds nice, unexpected, serious "NOIR" quality as High-Jinx and Low Brow Antics mix in a COMEDIC TONIC to lift your "SPIRITS". Lots of "funny business"with some genuine laugh-out-loud moments.SO, HAVE SOME FUN. See this one. ADD POPCORN and you and your GrandPa can be kids together again, for the very first time, at the neighborhood Saturday Matinee!"HEY, DOWN IN FRONT!

Disk poorly packaged and unreadable
Item arrived earlier than expected; however, it was not properly insulated in the packaging. Plastic prongs inside the cover broke, causing the disk to be loose within the cover. Disk was terribly scratched, since it was not secure. Also DVD player would not recognize disk, as it said disk was unreadable in my area. Very disappointed.

Abbott & Costello: Hold that Gost -Bud Abbott
Absolutely loved the slap-stick humor! Kept the family laughing and on the edge of their seats. It was completely family friendly. The commercial for the dude ranch was, though entertaining, way too long -hence the 4/5 stars.
