Review: Templates Are Reasonably Easy To Use. Labels Look Professional. - I bought Avery Print-to-the-Edge Round Labels (22830) to use on widemouth canning jars. These 2.5" labels fit Kerr and Ball widemouth lids. They are a glossy white label. When printed, colors are vibrant, and the ink dries fast. I've been very pleased with them. You can find pre-designed templates for Microsoft Word on Avery's web site. There are about 75 designs available for the 2.5" round labels. None seem to be designed with canning in mind, however, so I created my own. There are some generic designs that could be used for canning. If you type the label number (22830) into Avery's search, you will get incomplete results. You will get better results if you click the Templates tab at the top of the web page and navigate to Templates > Labels > Round Labels > 2 ½" diameter. There are still designs missing from that list, some of which I found using Google. To design and print the labels, you can use Avery Design & Print Online with an Avery account, or you can download templates to use on your computer. The pre-designed downloadable templates are all for Microsoft Word. Avery offers plain templates that you can use with your own designs for Microsoft Word, Apple Pages, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Photoshop. I used the plain template for Apple Pages, as it is easy to work with images in Pages, and I designed my labels in Photoshop. The instructions that Avery offers for templates are to download and make any edits you want on that document, save the document, do a test print, then print your labels. But you can save the downloaded document as a template before you add or change anything, so you will have it for future use in the editing application of your choice. Once your labels look the way you want them, do a test print on paper. You can check the colors, centering, etc. and get an idea of whether the print will align correctly with the sheet of labels. I had one small problem with alignment, but it wasn't the fault of the template. The bottom row of labels was slightly off-center on one sheet, because the sheet did not feed into the printer precisely straight. I'm not sure if I can avoid this consistently, but try to make sure your sheet is completely straight in the printer tray. I could not print these with more than one sheet in the printer tray. My printer would always grab a stack. I ended up putting the sheets in one at a time, which worked fine. I wish I could figure out how to use some of the MS Word templates in Photoshop and Pages, but the frustrations with using my own designs with the Pages template were very few.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Could I stamp a design on them, just a regular stamp with ink?**
A: I don't know much about stamps and ink, but I pulled out my ink pad to test your question and I am happy to report that the ink did not smudge at all. Even on the glossy paper! I let it sit for a couple of minutes and vigorously smeared the stamp with my fingers. Even though I ended up with ink on my finger, I do not see any on the paper outside of the stamp itself. Good luck!

**Q: I know Avery has their web site to help with this, but I am wondering how the printing works? Do you make 1 graphic and place it where the circles are**
A: The Avery software is quite nice to work with.  I have also used Microsoft Word's label printing function, and this works for common labels, but may not know the settings for the more unusual labels.Anyway, after you start the Avery software, it will ask what label you want to design.  For instance for these 2" rounds, you would enter 22807.  The software will then offer a vast selection of pre-designed templates.  You can add text and/or graphics to the pre-defined templates.  You can even develop your own template from scratch.  Once you have entered the label number, the software knows the size and layout of all of the print areas on the sheet of labels.As you update the template, you will see your changes in a graphic which shows all of the labels that are on the sheet.  In other words, you update the design of one of the labels and the software makes the same changes to all of the labels on the sheet.If you wish, you can also set the software to update each label individually on the sheet.  For instance if you want the top left label numbered as #1, the next #2, etc., etc.  Once you have made the changes you want, simply print out the sheet you have designed.Here's a real neat trick.  The Print menu also offers a button to transfer your design to a different label.  Say for instance that you have designed a template for a 2" round label, but you also want the same design in a 2-1/2" round.  Simple tell the program to transfer the design from the 22807 label to a 22830 label.  The program will even scale up your design to fit the 2-1/2" label.  This also works to transfer from rounds to ovals, even to squares or rectangulars!

**Q: How do you print these things-I don't have the specific label option available on my printer and I'm assuming most people don't.**
A: I used Microsoft Word to print these. You can select how to format your document and Microsoft Word already has all of the Avery product numbers loaded into its system so that you simply enter the number (in this case, 22830) and fill out your labels accordingly. I'm sure other non-Microsoft products also have similar options, but personally I cannot verify.

**Q: Are these labels safe for use in clothing?**
A: These labels are meant to be applied on hard surfaces, so I would not recommend adhering on clothing. For our Clothing safe labels, we have products such as our non-iron fabric labels # 40720 or our adhesive name badges 5144 or 8395. Thank you.

Buyer beware........The quantity is the amount of all sheets combined, not the number of sheets. The quality is great, but I expected to receive a box of labels, not six sheets.
