🍷 Inexpensive, yet oh so tasty 🍷
Cameron Hughes' Lot 473 Lake County Red Blend represents a unique opportunity for consumers to enjoy wine from one of the best vineyards in the Lake County area - Madder Lake Vineyard. Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Tempranillo and Syrah combine to make a wine that is 15.3% alcohol by volume, with 4000 bottles produced for the 2013 vintage.A budget priced wine, it's one that packs a huge bang for the buck! Smooth, yet full bodied I enjoyed it with Italian food, but it's equally enjoyable with appetizers. The wine has fantastic color and tastes well balanced with no sharp bitterness. This is not a particularly sweet blend, but it's not dry either. Cameron Hughes' product description states: "Big, boisterous fruit core framed by notes of espresso, spicebox and volcanic rock. Balanced oak leads to a palate that is deeply concentrated with silky tannins and a rich, multi-faceted juicy finish."I have to admit, I am not a wine expert, but rather your average consumer who is looking for a wine that tastes good to me. Keeping that in mind let me say this wine is an enjoyable red that I would be happy to share with friends and family. Full bodied with a smooth finish, I think many people like me will enjoy its earthy subtleties.I recommend the Lake County Red Blend, Lot 473 from Cameron Hughes as a gateway experience to fine wine at a budget price.------------------------------------------------🍷 About the LOT Series from Cameron Hughes:"Great wine at great prices. Bold and complex
The Cameron Hughes Lake County Red Blend (Lot 473) is a blend of Zinfandel, Syrah, Tempranillo, and Petite Sirah. My wife (who is my co-taster) and I both felt this wine grow on us with each sip. My first impression was that the wine was a bit heavy on the tannins and oak. However, after a couple sips I became accustomed to the tannins and noticed a welcomed complexity of flavors, as by mid-tongue the taste of berries (particularly blackberry) comes to the fore, leaving a most pleasant sensation in the mouth, with just a hint of sweetness at the end. This is a big, flavorful wine that can stand up to just about any cut of meat. My first thought was to pair it with a steak or hearty roast or possibly lamb. I have no doubt that it would nicely complement these meats. However, I also see how it can balance a pasta dish, such as a lasagna made with a sweet red sauce (such as a marinara). To date I have been well-pleased with all of the Cameron Hughes wines I have tried. This Lake County blend is one of the most complex and best. I highly recommend it.I received a bottle of this wine from Cameron Hughes in exchange for my willingness to write an honest review, which I am happy to provide.
