ahhhhhh ... much quieter now
My son started playing the trumpet this year, and boy that sucker can get loud. Once we figured out how much he enjoyed playing and how good he was getting at it, I figured it was time to invest in something that helps to mute the music. This guy works great. It is well priced, seems well made, easy to clean, and fits the trumpet well. Most importantly, though, it works! I know this can be used for actual playing purposes as well, but for now, it fits our needs perfectly

Best practice mute I've owned or tried
I am a professional trumpet player and teacher. I own MANY different practice mutes and was never happy with any... until now. Some cost $100 or more, including Yamaha Silent Brass and a copy of the Best Brass (Protec Liberty) and a few others whose names I can't remember. I've always hated playing with practice mutes as the "blow" is so much different that other than helping to keep my "chops" in shape I have avoided using them as much as possible. I was at one of my student's homes earlier and saw this mute sitting on a nearby table. It looked curious. "Pampet"? Never heard of it. I popped it in my horn and was really surprised at how little back-pressure it produced. I was carrying a Best Brass copy and popped it in for comparison. No contest. The Pampet was only slightly louder than the the Protec Liberty but MUCH easier to play. I HAD to order one which I did immediately. This mute is made out of some sort of plastic but feels like it has different densities throughout. It comes in a fancy box and wrapped in a velvet bag, much like Crown Royal whiskey(?). I couldn't help but think the bag cost more to make than the must. The front of the mute has a plastic piece that looks like a large plastic washer. I have no idea of the physics of it, but not only does it quiet the trumpet to very low levels I can feel the vibration of the horn in my hand! I've never experienced that before. My first test was about 8:30pm at home where my grandson was asleep. My daughter often shushes me if I talk in a normal voice which is often stifling (I won't get into that). Without saying a word, I took my trumpet and mute to the basement and played for a few minutes then came back up. My wife, daughter an son-in-law were on the couch on the first floor, right above where I was playing. Not a word about my playing. They didn't even know. A lot of players don't get enough practice time in because they work or go to school and they don't have a secluded place to practice away from family. I think this mute is a game changer. For people like me who need both free blowing and good tactile resonse this mute can ge a godsend. From a practical purpose I don't think you'll find a better practice mute at any price, except for the 2nd generation Yamaha Silent Brass for $150-$200.

Works better than expected
Works so well. the sound is turned downed so much. The neighbors do not have to complain anymore about the lovely sound of the trumpet. It does come out if you blow really loud to hit those high notes though. All in all it works well and a god send to lowering the noise level of the trumpet dramatically. the sound it makes is more of a funny squeak but that works for practice to ensure you have the fingering and memorizing the notes.

Perfect solution for school band during remote school!
I bought this for my 7th-grader so it's easier for him to play his trumpet during band class while on Zoom, while the rest of the family is also schooling or working from home! Without a mute, it's really impossible to play a trumpet "quietly". This practice mute snuffs the volume right out. There's a little bit of back pressure, so it does feel somewhat different to play. (I played trumpet back in the day, so I tried it out too.) But it is extremely quiet! You can blow your horn as hard as you want and it's hardly audible, especially from another room. And since there's a time delay over Zoom, the kids who are at home are not transmitting audio anyway, so this trumpet mute works out perfectly. You can even hold it up to your mouth and scream into it, and the sound vanishes. Another useful feature while everyone in the family is home together during the pandemic. Construction is good and I'm definitely happy with the purchase. So is my son.

Depends on your needs
I got this to practice at night while my kids are sleeping. It does its job well in the sense that it makes the trumpet almost silent. However, I believe it really throws off the pressure needed to hit certain notes and if used too frequently could mess up that muscle memory needed to play the trumpet well and accurately. That said, it does largely work for my needs because I’m just hammering out meaningless notes to try and build my chops up. And I’m able to do that pretty silently so that’s a win. When I go to practice the song I will be performing instead of drills, I won’t be able to use it.

An inexpensive gem!
I spent fifty dollars for a practice mute which I still have and like very much. I saw this mute in red with a very inexpensive price and had to see how it works. It’s great! Smaller, lighter, just as quiet, good pitch, and easy to find with its bright red color. I like the bag for storage in my case. Good quality at a super price!

Very comfortable practice mute
I was quite surprised by the easy blow of this thing! As quiet as most practice mutes but without the back pressure. Intonation is pretty good, too. At its loudest it sounds like a mezzo forte Harmon. More free-blowing and slightly louder than the Trumcor Lyric Stealth, and better intonation. I wish I had ordered it in black instead of green because I can see myself using it on stage for a few REALLY soft solo moments that I would use the Stealth for, especially if miked (shows, etc). My usual "hotel mute" is my JoRal adjustable cup but this one's going on my next trip instead.

Pleasantly Surprised
This practice mute exceeded expectations. I’m currently living in an apartment looking to practice more without disturbing the neighbors, and practicing with a straight mute was too loud. This mute is drastically quieter than a straight mute. It allows me to play at a “forte” and push more air through the trumpet (a phrase my teacher always drilled into my head), all without an audible “forte”. One thing that took a little getting used to was hearing the plosives of my tonguing over the actual sound coming out of the trumpet. It’s a little harder to remain in tune, but makes you work to stay on pitch. The packaging is nice, and comes with a carrying bag (also can be squeezed over the bell in case you want to play the solo to American in Paris and don’t have a Gershwin Mute... kinda... heh). The mute itself is decent. It is made of plastic, looks to be relatively durable, but arrived with some extra glue/goo residue that was easily removed. Overall I recommend this especially if you’re looking for a relatively cheap practice mute to keep noise levels down.

Sound suppression and not as much back pressure
I've tried other practice mutes that had much more back pressure. This one suppresses the sound great and is easier to play.
