Beautiful story! It has really helped our family after the loss of our dog.

I bought this for my 6 year old as we are putting our old boy to sleep tomorrow. My son is also called Zac and our dog is passing on a Friday so I found a lot of comfort in this book as if it was meant to be for us. I haven't read it to him yet but I'm sure this lovely story will help support him through his first loss. Thanks so much xx

I can't rate this story highly enough. We lost our beloved staffie recently and are all absolutely heartbroken. This story helped my kids, but also helped me, a sceptical atheist! Don't hesitate buying it's brilliant.

This is a lovely book for little ones to understand the passing of a pet. Comforting

We just lost one of our beautiful cats, quite suddenly, so I wanted something to help our children (4 and 7) with the grieving process. The reviews of this book are wonderful, so I think my expectations were very high, however there something just not quite there with this book. Firstly - for us brits, it’s an American book. I changed some words (including the title to lead instead of leash) as I read it. I just feel the book is a bit to wordy and not necessarily the right language for younger children especially. The sentiment of it however is lovely. I first read it to my youngest, and a lot of it seemed to go over his head. But then again he’s only 4 (nearly 5) , and I found I had to summarise after. He is used to wordy books - we read a lot and he enjoys chapter books, so perhaps it’s the choice of language and the way it’s put together. For a book on such an emotive subject, it almost could have done with being simpler. For my 7 year old (nearly 8) he got it more and thought he could feel our cat pulling on his string. Like I say, the sentiment of the book is lovely, I love the thought of the invisible leash (or lead in our case) but you are essentially explaining the expression ‘tugging on your heart strings’ to children, and that’s quite tricky as it’s a very grown up phrase and concept.

I got this book because our pet was due to be PTS and I wanted to prepare the kids. This book was really well written, thoughtful and the illustrations were friendly and also inline with the story. Was a really go way to introduce death of a pet to children with the story saying how they never leave us and they are always by our sides

got this for my kids when we lost our Dog Skoota whom is now chasing Rainbows we brought 2 plush dogs that look like him and this book they where a bit younge to fully understand but the magiv of the book is still with them as i told them the stirng is magic you cant see it but its there

Have gotten this book a few times for friends who have lost furry family members. They have all loved it - story is great for kids as well and helped my own kids with grieving the loss of our pup.

family pet was dying, so I raced to get a few books about this for our little one to help process it. this story wasnt the best of help, but as a follow on from the invisible string I hoped it might lend a hand at the process, but it didnt with our little one.

Great book to help little ones understand/cope with the loss of a pet - and an easy way for kids to understand the concept of life after death. We reference this book often when talking of our departed pets and family members.

This beautifully written book helped our family through one of the hardest times we’ve faced. After losing our dog, our child found comfort in the gentle words and warm illustrations, and as adults we were moved, too. The story explains sadness and memory in a simple, loving way that children can understand. It gave our child language for feelings and comforting rituals to remember our pet. Honest, tender, and hopeful, this book was a true companion during our saddest days. A must-read for any family coping with loss.
