The original game only has white characters and 5 women out of 24 characters. I'm not sure about animals or vegetables, but I have seen tons of independent sellers create a different series of cards (often based on a specific theme - like characters from a certain TV show, movie, book, or fictional universe like superheroes or comics)! I'm sure there's ones for cartoon characters - and maybe even just food items and animals! If you have a printer, you could even make your own by cutting the pictures to the right size and gluing them to the cards included in the game box. As a kid the absolute worst part of the game was when they asked a question about a super narrow category and the answer was yes and I had to watch the person I was playing with knock down all but 4 or 5 characters when I only had that many down. "Does your character have red hair?" "Yes." Now they're down to five. Far from generalizations, this version of the game forces you to look at smaller details and pay more attention to the questions that you're asking, all while giving kids who aren't blonde and ginger white kids a place to see themselves. I think the bad reviewers are just uncomfortable with seeing too many types of people they don't want to think about. Also, I originally bought this board for Subjective Guess Who and it works wonderfully for that purpose.
