They are DIFFICULT to take off of the paper they come attached to, but they are basically transparent (against any key except the space key). You peel it off, apply it to the cover, then peel the white paper off to reveal the adhesive and stick it to your keyboard. I put adhesive pieces on F7, ~, left ctrl, spacebar, right arrow key and backspace. The cover feels extremely secure and if needed I can always purchase new adhesive if this eventually fails. The materials are really soft, you do not feel any interruption while typing and it helps to reduce the sounds (just in case you work/live in a quiet environment). The case comes with its corresponding stickers to attach them (if necessary) to the keyboard itself, just be careful that your laptop model isn't too tight when closing the screen since the sticker creates another layer and it could affect your screen as it has happened with the Apple laptops, they excessively reduced the screen width but forgot the design itself, you know, all that glitters is not gold.
