Format this as an internal drive, external gave me issues.
Just received the drive. Tried to format it with a USB external drive adapter and it just wouldn't show up correctly in disk management. Opened up my PC and just added the disk internally and had zero issues formatting at that point. Cheap, working, 12tb at my disposal! Hello personal Netflix knockoff (Plex)! No more subscriptions for this guy! 😁👍

Worked perfectly in DS216+
These worked perfectly in a Synology DS216+ and has for the past several months. I would recommend disabling the data scrubbing feature on the synology to prevent further issues.

Concerned About S.M.A.R.T. Data
The drive is working fine so far, but I'm concerned that the S.M.A.R.T. information has been wiped. Without the original usage data, there's no way to know the true lifespan or how many hours I can expect from this drive. This practice feels misleading and is a significant drawback for me.Update: after 8 months started to fail.

I wanted to distance myself from public cloud storage and decided to run a RAID array at home. I bought these 12TB HGST drives a while back. Looking at drive prices these days, it’s wild how much things have gone up, but I wanted to leave this review to let people know that MDTech delivers exactly what they promise.I use these for family backups, photos, and light Plex streaming—nothing crazy or enterprise-heavy. Out of the 8 drives I bought, most have worked wonderfully for multiple years. Recently, I had an issue with a couple of them, but MDTech's customer service has been phenomenal.A huge shout-out to Jenn from their support team. She and her team have been incredibly helpful, and I was honestly surprised by how seamless and genuine their warranty support is.One tip for buyers: Amazon's interface makes it a bit tricky because multiple sellers share the same product page. Make sure you double-check the "Sold by" section and manually select MDTech before checking out. You won't regret it!
