HDMI to SCART Converter Adaptor, Convert digital 1080P HDMI video and audio signal to analog SCART CVBS signal, Support PAL/NTSC Formats

Bought this as our new Manhattan PVR only has an HDMI output and our old faithful DVD recorder only has a Scart input. This device just sits between them passing the signal from PVR to DVD-R - just plug the HDMI cable in one end and the Scart cable in the other. Use in PAL mode in the UK (has a little switch for that) and away you go. I have experienced no problems with installation (it's just plug and play) and I can see minimal loss of picture quality going from digital to analogue signal, and sound passes through just fine. There is a 5v power input with a short USB lead (no mains adapter) should your HDMI source not give out power - our PVR does, so it provides the necessary 5v this device needs - check this if you are worrying about having to find another empty mains socket! So all in all, given the price, and that this does what it's meant to do I think it's a bargain.

Well I really didn't hold much hope of this working but now I've used it I'm kind of kicking myself for not discovering this a few years back! I have an old TV with only SCART inputs and have been considering replacing it... except this TV is a perfectly good Panasonic plasma screen and I resent throwing perfectly good equipment away. Being an Amazon user I've been paying from Prime but rarely watched it other than the odd episode on my tablet. However, after stumbling across this while looking at streaming devices I decided that for the extra £9.99 it was worth a punt to see if it would allow me to connect HDMI devices to my TV. What I can say is that it just plugged in and worked. Yes - I wasn't quite expecting that to be perfectly honest. I've bought other devices in the past that were substandard and the picture quality was intolerable, with colour banding and ghosting. This however, was comparable to my live TV broadcast. So much so that when watching a streamed film I actually forgot it wasn't live TV and forgot I could pause it. My plasma definition isn't HD anyway but this still converted fine and menu text is still very readable. Colour - no issues. Screen positioning - no issues. Image deterioration - No issues. I've found is the SCART autodetect input, doesn't appear to work so well. When I power on I have to manually switch the AV channel on the TV remote. That said, I'm sure it did when I first plugged it in, so it may just be the other AV device fighting with it, the power-on procedure or a TV setting. The down side is that it needs a 5V 1A power USB as well as a SCART cable (as the device has a female connecter on it) That said it allows me to tuck it safely at the back of the TV and the cable means it's not stressing the socket on the TV. The only other minor snag is when the streaming device I'm using switches between services the 'No signal' colour banded test screen appears temporarily. This isn't a problem, although it would be nice if it was just black. Can't be 100% whether this is the streaming device or the converter, but doesn't affect operation. Very pleased overall

Fantastic little box that did exactly what i wanted; having recently been upgraded from a 'Sky +' to a 'Sky Q' box, which has no Scart outputs, i was unable to connect it to my DVD Recorder, but this genius gadget allows you to do so; the HDMI lead (that would usually go to the TV) plugs into the converter, use a good quality SCART lead from the other end of the converter to the DVD Recorder, and the provided USB cable into a power source (i use a 4-gang mains extension lead with a USB socket so i can power everything off the same socket anyway; if you dont use the USB cable it will still work as the box is powered by the HDMI, but you get a bit of 'ghosting' on the image.) All i do then is have a second old SCART TV plugged into the output of the Recorder so i can monitor the picture for editing etc. There have been some negative reviews on here, but i honestly think it's where people havent taken the time to experiment and adapt their set-up to how they want to use it; personally i love it! Highly recommended!

What a straightforward solution! I had been looking at alternatives involving more wires and costing over 8 times as much as this. Admittedly it did take a little perseverance to get it working which I think was user/old TV related but it now working fine (as per pics). Also tested and working with an old DVD player with a SCART connection. Great value and has given an old TV a new lease of life and my Bang & Olufsen Beovision 6 22 has FireTV. For anyone wondering about settings/connections with a Bang & Olufsen Beovision 6 22 I set the AV in TV connections to DVD and then powered on the FireTV stick last of all and it sprung into life.

The first one I bought was faulty ─ it seemed to have poor connections from the SCART socket to the circuit board. Amazon took it back and refunded the cost. I ordered another and this one is working perfectly. It has a little switch on it which selects the video format; this is defaulted to NTSC and needs to be changed to PAL to work in this country.

I am. Or rather my wife is. We have an old Toshiba. Remember the ad.. Hi tosh.. got a Toshiba ? Well we did, and 20 years later it's still going strong. Bit more than can be said for the wife and me., but she loves it and won't get rid of it. As we're still married I guess she feels the same way about me. But I digress. Our old free view box has started to declare UDI, usually when it should be recording a particular favourite, odd how that happens, always on the one most wanted we get, " failed to record," instead of Scary Movie or Friday the Thirteenth, so we invested in a new box. However, unlike us, who are now marking time, technology has been rapid marching, double time, and is now on our horizon instead of by our side. On inspection instead of a scart socket there's an HDMI outlet. I know, not bad for an oldie eh? But I read and enjoy keeping up with new ideas, even though I don't always employ them. Then I got to thinking. If technology has been quickly advancing in one direction, it's probably been doing the same in others, sort of a flanking movement. So I fired up my steam driven computer , put on a wet suit, and surfed the web. Voila, it had, and amongst its many achievements was the handy little gadget above. Compact, cost effective and crammed with exactly what was needed to convert HDMI to Analogue. Set up time..90 secs. just plug and play! It even has its own USB lead to supply power from the port on the box. In the unlikely event there isn't one, a USB mains plug can be bought for pennies and the other leads supplied are long enough to reach where the set is plugged in. A very neat piece of kit !! Wife thrilled... she gets to keep her old TV. Me thrilled... I get to stay at home, plus she now thinks of me as some sort of technical wizard. Never does any harm to guild the lily occasionally. So while she settles down to Miss Marple, the boys and I can let loose in the back room with a bottle, a six pack and Texas Hold'em . That's a type of fajita wrap, for all you ladies who don't know.
