Planning to paint my classic 500 engine black,Is primer required? If so which one to go for?,Also could you explain the right procedure&lasts how long

if u paint directly then it will last only few months. You need to 1st sand using emery paper then degrease the parts,then apply heat resistant Primer and wait for it to dry then use this spray paint(1st coat) then do 2nd coat and finally apply "clear coat". By this procedure it will last forever.spray painting may take only 10min to paint but remember it all depends on how u do the preparation before painting and allow paint to dry completely. need patience
