Summary of water rights
This is really an outline of some basic aspects related to water rights. It’s a start but not much more than that.

Highly Recommended - Desk reference for water rights!
I am a licensed real estate appraiser in Nevada and this book has become my new desk reference! After reading it 3 times and still find nuggets of new water rights understanding. This is highly recommended reading for not only to individuals seeking water independence and sustainability but also to professionals dealing with private land transactions.

No Value
The book dos not teach you how to buy water rights but only the importance of it, which we already know is important. I was disappointed in the lack of information and shortness of the book. Waste of money in my opinion.

A definite guide to water rights
Interestingly enough, like a reviewer before me, I also saw the movie "The Big Short" and became interested in reading more into what one of the leading minds in the stock market world is investing in: water.Being from Arkansas, I never saw the immediate effects that not having enough water can have on individuals and the economy. I grew up with what seemed to be unlimited water and never saw anything on the local news about the scarcity of such a valuable resource. However, upon traveling throughout the southwestern states, it became obvious how much of a valuable resource it is here; but not only here, the entire world. Chris does a great job of going into detail about how water rights affect individual property owners in this area, giving details about how certain circumstances can lead to you buying a home or land and then not having water. He would know, he's worked for 40 years with thousands of people throughout their process of purchasing property in this area and is well versed in the water rights that go along with purchasing property in the desert biomes throughout the western states.I would consider this a very practical guide to those interested in purchasing land west of the 100th Meridian. Chris does a really good job of explaining what is needed prior to purchasing land and obtaining water rights in the western states. He even includes a valuable checklist you can follow if you're entertaining the idea of purchasing land with water rights. This is also a great resource if you're interested in learning more about the scarcity of water in the western states. For that purpose, I learned a lot about my original interest, why one would invest in water in the first place. This is a quick read and you can finish it in about an hour. If you're interested in learning more about water scarcity, how water is divided between owners, water tables, irrigation, and ultimately, purchasing property with water rights, this is a definite guide and one I would highly recommend from an obvious expert in the field.

Well all know water is both important and finite. ...
Well all know water is both important and finite. But few people understand how water rights actually work, or how to determine whether the right they think they own is worth anything. No one resource will tell you everything you need to know, but this book will tell you where to start looking.

Don't be left out in the arid heat -- understand your water rights
This book makes sense of the complicated but urgent world of water rights. Chris Miller is clearly a leading expert in the field.I saw the movie "The Big Short," about the economic collapse of 2008. I was interested to see that the man who first identified the problems with the mortgage bonds (and made $2.6 billion from his acuity) now only invests in one thing -- water. What does that tell you?
