my second time buying these so that should tell you lots! I mainly use them in soups & use them as supplied, just cut up a little. For other dishes which require less cooking or salads, I have a large jar of them soaking in olive oil. Otherwise they could be a little tough. They're pretty salty, so taste your dish before adding any additional seasoning. Great taste, great value, great service!

Great product but do need rinsing or soaking in water as they are very salty but it does say on the info that these are salted then dried.

I use a lot of sun dried tomatoes: making my own tomato pesto, using them in cooking, and in salads. I often buy sun dried tomatoes in oil, but they are generally in sunflower seed oil or rapeseed oil, and I wanted to try partially rehydrating some and putting them up in olive oil with garlic and herbs. This is a large pack of dried tomatoes: they are thoroughly dried, and there's no sign of contamination. However, the pack I got had a lot of tomato halves with significant flaws. More than half of them had hard, woody patches where the stem had been attached, and fibrous, white flesh from the stem inside: possibly signs of 'yellow shoulder', a disorder where the parts of the top of a tomato remains yellow and the flesh inside is spongey, white and flavourless, although still edible. Several also had scaly dark flaws and 'scabbing' on the outer skins of the tomatoes, too (see pictures). This meant that the tomatoes took a lot of picking over and preparation for use - easier to do once partly rehydrated. The tomatoes were also excessively salty. I'm used to sun dried tomatoes being salty, and usually the soak to partially rehydrate them removes the excess salt. These remained very salty and took several changes of water to get them to a point where they were usable. So it took a considerable amount of work to prepare them for bottling them in oil: partially rehydrating, desalting, cutting away the flavourless, fibrous white cores, and cutting out the hard stem bases and flaws. All that work would be fine if the flavour was good. However, it wasn't. The flavour was insipid without the rich depth that good sun dried tomatoes have. I eventually used these to make a tomato sauce for pizza bases which meant I could strain out the unwanted parts and concentrate the flavour through reduction, and for that they are acceptable although it was still making the best of poor quality tomatoes. I wouldn't buy these again: although they are lower priced than many others, I'd rather pay more and get better quality.

Excellent product, very flavoursome.

It's a high quality pack of dried tomatos, nothing much more to say very happy with this. They are very large and tough raw (moreso than other brands), but their flavour is very very good.
