I also appreciate buying from a small business. The sponge does smell quite strongly of the sea to begin with, however, this is starting to fade. I've been using it daily for a few weeks now. It's soft and appears durable, I'm hoping it will last for a long time and I may update this review at a later date to report back on durability. I did receive a sponge with a flat edge, which may not look aesthetically pleasing, but it is absolutely fine to wash with. The rope is useful to hang it up so it can dry out after use. I bought the large size, which fits nicely in my hand.
