Before a camping trip in 2014, I was trying to figure out what I could do to avoid the nightly trips to the restrooms, which require getting dressed and unzipping the tent, etc., and is really a pain. I found another device, the Shewee, and the video made it look so easy to use, so I ordered it. I thought it was working ok during practice at home...until I tried to use it with my hiking shorts on and with a pretty full bladder. Huge mess. This happened another time, and I decided it just wasn't going to work and gave up. Now, we are planning a hiking trip and I want to be able to stay well-hydrated, but not have to squat behind a tree. Also, some areas we will be in have pit toilets which are just vile! If you squat over them, you can feel the air rushing up from the "pit" and the air feels wet. Not acceptable! So, I ordered the Freshette based on the reviews here and on some backpacking/hiking forums. I received the one I saw pictured (military green). I didn't even practice in the shower first, but tried the toilet and it was 100% successful. I have since used it fully dressed and absolutely no leaks, even with a very full bladder. I do feel the need to use some TP afterwards, though, but that's fine because I am thrilled that this works! The real test will be using it with my backpack on. I've already figured out which hiking shorts are preferred, and those are the ones that allow me to place the device going up the leg of the shorts. If I wear shorts that do not allow this, then I will have to pull the shorts down a bit, but underwear can be moved to the side without getting wet (not so easy with the Shewee because of it's shape). I think the Shewee could work if you place it correctly and can control how fast you go with a full bladder, but it's just not worth the risk for me. My trip is in 5 weeks and I intend to practice with the Freshette at least once a day to gain even more confidence and train my bladder to empty while standing. UPDATE 6/4/17: I have since used the Freshette with a full bladder & backpack. I have had 100% success with this device. I also decided to order the pStyle to have something a bit smaller with a discreet carrying case that clips to the outside of my pack. I've also had 100% success with the pStyle and it will be my #1 choice for hiking, with the Freshette along as a backup if I lose the pStyle. Using the Freshette with so much success gave me the confidence to try the pStyle. Both of these devices are awesome! I do believe the key to successful use is to press the back of the device to the perineal area, but to leave an air gap at the front (even just 1/4"). If you hold the Freshette tight to your body, you are creating a sort of airlock, which won't allow the funnel to drain as quickly and that may be why some people get overflow.

I bought this for a 7 day rafting excursion in 2025 because I had read reviews saying it was foolproof. It worked great for me, and I recently confirmed it is foolproof. My daughter sustained an injury which made sitting on the toilet difficult. She asked if she could try peeing standing up. I got a little excited and said “I have just the thing for you!” I gave my daughter instructions, and in spite of being on heavy narcotics, having lots of pain and being exhausted she was able to use it for the first time with not a single drop out of place. Even got a tiny smile on her face. So I’m super happy with this purchase.

warning, my review is detailed, but if you are a woman who is looking to pee like a man, im pretty sure you can handle it! I needed to buy one of these things because I ride snowmobiles and it would be a lot easier on everyone if I could just go to the bathroom standing up instead of undressing trailside and hold everyone up. I did my homework on this ladies and this is the one I choose. I am not a small woman, and I have 3 kids. I now pee "like a racehorse". My main fear was that this would not be able to hold the volume that comes out of me, not to mention the sheer force with which it comes out. Long story short, this is amazing. It is hard plastic so you won't crush it, pinch it, squish it. It conforms well to my old girl, don't be affraid to get right up in there and hold it in place, you need a good seal. The trick is, and my husband thinks this is hysterical, you really have to lean forward. I put my hand on the wall over the toilet to practice and will need a tree when I am outside. If you do not lean forward it could cause back flow or the short hose could force the pee onto your clothing. I pull my pants down but need to practice sliding it around clothing for more descret bathroom breaks. I may buy mens long underware so that I can utilize the hole in them. Someone needs to make women's pants designed to accomidate the female urination device! I am buying the case for it that another reviewer posted because its grosser than you might think when you are finished. I think I will need to rinse with water before putting it away, if you do not have water, you will want the case, trust me on that. This is purse friendly but not pocket friendly. Practice in the shower before you turn the water on. I had the hose in wrong so do read the directions. I really thought that this would not work for me, three kids and gravity changes things. I am thrilled to have been proven wrong. Until you realize that standing up to pee means that you actually have to look the contents of the porta potty/outhouse straight in the eye! I secretly worry that in a few years I won't be able to squat in the woods, or hover over a public toilet, due to decreased muscle in my legs. I was resolved to just sit on that dirty gross seat, but now I have a new hope. Thank you to whomever developed the female urination device, god bless you!

I read all of the reviews on all of the products of this type and settled on this one. I am quite happy with how well it works. It takes a few times to practice with it in the shower so you don't wet your clothes when you are dressed, but I caught on really quickly. The only reason that I gave it four stars instead of five is that I think it could have been better with the outflow tubing length. I found that I was getting splash drops on my shoes because I could not direct it far enough away from me so that when the stream hit the ground it splashed back. I went to Lowes and bought some more tubing and replaced the short one. I think the short one would be less to carry for hikers, etc, but I want it in my car so the extra bulk doesn't matter. As far as those who are concerned about needing toilet tissue, I don't think you do. You can quickly learn to just tilt the back up just a bit and draw it forward like a squeegee and you are nice and dry. Some folks asked if you could use it sitting down. If you are perched on the edge of a car seat or a wall, etc, then I would say yes. But if you are in a full sit on a chair or in your car, you would probably have to practice a lot to perfect that move. Then for the cleanliness issue. The plastic that the trough and the tubing is made of is so slick that the moisture doesn't really stick to it. A gentle shake will take away any excess and then any plastic zippy bag will keep your belongings from touching it. I think that the technique for using this item is to hold it with the back edge tipped up just a bit and when you release your stream, try to do it in a relaxed way instead of full blast. This product works really well.

I first bought the pStyle before an operation that would make sitting difficult for a few weeks. I figured it would also come in handy for extended outdoor activities. Obviously, I wasn't satisfied with the pStyle, thus I purchused the Freshette, which has printed on the box - 'new improved model'. Here is why: The pStyle is a bit narrow, which makes it hard to place and easy to leak. This has more to do with your anatomy than your overall size, though they can be related. I found that there was one, and only one position in which the pStyle would not leak. The pStyle worked best if I leaned forward a bit. This wasn't the easiest after the operation. The pStyle spout sticks straight out, which creates splashback. I could never go full-force, and this is quite a design flaw, given I wouldn't win any velocity or volume awards. And the pStyle felt as if the edges were sharp - it just didn't feel comfortable. I practiced with the pStyle before I had to use it, and I would still have leaks. In sum, it never worked for me. I didn't like it. It wasn't comfortable. And I wouldn't recommend it. I would never trust it while wearing clothes. And I really wanted to use it while traveling and while outdoors. So, I bought the Freshette. I decided to throw caution to the wind and tried it while fully clothed, though I was at home. I had no troubles at all. No leaks. It was comfortable. There was no guesswork, as there was with the pStyle (do I have it place correctly?). I went full-force. The spout is aimed outward and downward, so there was no splashback. The Freshette was everything I needed and had wanted when I, unfortunately, purchased the pStyle. I've used the Freshette several times already. I've had absolutely no troubles. I don't have to think about it. It seems to have a natural fit/feel. Just place it and go. When I ordered it, I was afraid it would be a bit large. It is surprsingly small. The contour is different, but I would say that it takes up less space than the pStyle even though it is a bit wider, because the spout pushes into the cup for storage. I haven't had any issue with urine remaining in the Freshette (just give gravity a second and a quick shake doesn't hurt), and I find it very easy to clean on the go. In this regard, it is no better or worse than the pStyle. I am very happy with this purchase. I'm about to purchase another one just to leave in the truck we use to haul our toys. The Freshette does cost a little more than the pStyle; however, the superior design and material quality is well worth it. My pStyle made its way to a landfill quite some time ago. It was of no use to me.

Most awkward review ever but wanted to be honest and provide as much info as possible. We were planning a back country camping trip in the desert and I knew I needed a better solution since there would be NO privacy. Amazon did not deliver this in time so I had to pick one up from REI but I’m so glad I did. First, the main points: PROS: - Hard plastic makes it easy to hold and easy to use under shorts or with a zipper - Compact - I could literally pee almost anywhere! So much better than looking for a spot and worrying about getting pee on my clothes - Not hard to use like I imagined (didn’t get to practice at home first, but survived with no issues) - Very easy to rinse out and clean - Worth saying again, complete freedom! CONS: - Trying to tell my body it was ok to pee while standing took a little getting used to - Have to work and getting the process down. Learning how to juggle the thing, water to rinse, etc took some trial and error - The plastic storage bag doesn’t seem like it will last and I’ll need a different solution My first attempt at using this was in the dark while camping. Was able to figure it out easily enough, make sure the tube in inserted the correct way so you don’t have to worry about it coming out and you’re good to go. Trying to get my body to pee while standing was probably the hardest part, lol. It was easy to hold and the hose was long enough that I had no fear about getting anything on my clothes. I did find you needed to tilt forward at the end to make sure everything drained out. Once done is where I struggled more. Trying to keep in one hand not touching anything, wipe (it’s hard to undo years of training in the first attempt), zip up my shorts with the other hand, rinse it off, etc. After a few uses it got easier and I found a rhythm. I also found that having a little bottle of hand sanitizer in my pocket was great! I would highly recommend getting the hang of it first, and then taking it everywhere! Camping, fishing, road trips, public bathrooms, traveling, the uses are endless. Was so easy, no more squatting and trying to avoid things. Well worth all the jokes and laughs we had about on it the trip and don’t know how I’ll ever camp again without one!

I live above the arctic circle and enjoy adventuring to places without toilets, often with other people (With built in stand to pee devices). Ladies (And gentleman looking for gift options for outdoor ladies) LOOK NO FURTHER!!!! After 150 mile drive on a snow-go in lovely 15 degree weather, we finally stopped to pee! All the men of course just turn their backs and whip it out but ladies, we usually have to grab the TP, go find a discrete area, take off your coat, drop your suspenders, unzip your pants, drop those + long undies + regular undies, squat and gather all that gear to move it out the way, then hope and pray some stiff breeze doesn't blow your pee onto your boots and gear. No more!!!!!! I can now just grab my Freshette (Hereby known as pee funnel), unzip my coat, unzip my pants, push the device into place, and pee like the men! It is amazing. It's quick! You don't pee on yourself. With a careful "scrape" you're pretty dry. I try to carry wipes of some sort but they usually freeze in the winter packs. So a quick rinse (or not, you do you), collapse the tube (THANK GOD FOR THE TUBE) and store away again. The pee funnel provides dignity and privacy! I can keep myself almost completely covered and maintain a conversation with a man I work with WHILE I STAND UP TO PEE and not worry about being, or feeling, exposed. No more baring your bits to the world, no more accidentally peeing on your gear! A few tips for success: DO NOT PEE INTO THE WIND!!! Try it a few times in the comfort (and cleaning convenience) of your own home. It takes a little practice to stand and pee after years of sitting a squatting as well as figuring out how it feels when you've got a good seal and when you don't (usually warmth on your leg will let you know that part) After trying it normally, try it with your gear on. Rock climbers? Arctic explorer? Fisher? Hiker? Just want to pee standing up? Try it with your gear on! Maneuvering around your gear is important. Other pee funnles I have tried just don't hold up to Freshette. With the deeper dip to the funnel, your pee goes straight down into the tube instead of pooling up before emptying which prevents spillage if your at an angle or you lose your balance/footing. The tube allows for some direction. DO NOT immediately remove the funnel when it feels like you're done peeing. Watch the Freshette until liquid is no longer flowing, THEN it's safe to remove.

I literally did not even know that such things existed until I read a Cracked article discussing things that sound useless and really aren't - this was not the product featured, but I immediately launched an investigation until I came across this item. It speaks volumes about the male-dominated industrial sector that the first place they went with plastics was sex toys, when every single woman I know would much rather have the ability to pee standing up, and without dropping their shorts, than any number of life-like...toys. If you, like me, have been longing for the ability to wizz like a guy - on hikes, in backcountry skiing, on 7th hole of the golf course, in port-a-cans and train stations - this item is Your BFF Forever. As soon as I discovered that these kinds of things existed, I did some research and ordered three different kinds to test them out. This Freshette is the clear winner. The plastic hose gets retracted into the cup for storage, and you just pull it out when you need to use it. Position it against your body per the directions, and off you go. I have successfully used this item in the shower (testing), while wearing a pair of 6" shorts at the toilet (more testing), and while wearing my golf skirt (Game Day!!!) and it's been awesome. No leakage around the cup, the little hose directs everything away from your clothes and your body, and the only really issue is calculating the wind speed and direction so you don't wind up sprinkling your shoes...just like the boys have to do. If you drag the plastic cup up your hoo-hoo, it squeegees away the drops. Personally, I like to follow up with a paper napkin, but it's not strictly essential. A quick rinse out of my water bottle, and back into the ziploc storage baggie, and it's time to tee off on the 8th hole.

I bought this when it arrived the hose was folded for shipment was fused together I shoved a spoon handle in the tube to open it (that worked) once I got the hang of it I ended up cutting down the tube it was quite long but works great also for transgender men looking for a quick solution for urnal visits it actually works much better then the typical stand to pee phallic shaped devices just wish the hose was thicker but quite happy with the product I wear it when I go out anywhere it is hard plastic but if you position it right it didn't bother you while wearing it all day

I have used this product now for travel and out in public restrooms for 10 years! Love it. Allows you to pee anywhere standing up. It is the best product of all similar products out there. Yes a bit expensive but you will have it forever in your purse. I bought more as presents to all my girlfriends!

Freshette was the first FUD I ever tried (more tha 15 years ago) and after loosing it I bought several other brands (because i had a hard time finding the Freshette at the time) and threw them all out as I don't appreciate peeing down my pants. I eventually found my freshette and so I purchased two. I spend a lot of times outdoors. I used this on army field excersed, hunting or hiking, on boat, while traveling, and even in dirty port-a-potties during concerts n festivals. I currently keep one in my vehicle, atv, snowmobile, boat and hiking bag. So glad Amazon now carries these as I can easily buy replacements as needed
