Which is better, this or a boot for a trailer?

This is pretty good, fits any receiver and is sturdy. I also have a boot, one that clamps on each side of the wheel, so much easier to use than the so called Denver Boot. If someone wants your trailer bad enough locks and boots won't make any difference, but it sure will slow them down.

Are the keys universal or unique to each lock?

The keys are unique to the lock. I ordered the 4 pack. The keys for one lock only works on that lock.

Will this lock work on a gooseneck trailer 2 5/16 hitch receiver?

Yes, it works on mine, and the description of it states the sizes it will fit.

Master lock

Be careful this not for everyone it will not fit my trailer,and it’s just a standard trailer 🤷‍♂️

Master brand is known for high quality, which usually comes with higher price than competitors. Lots of research done to find a very solid lock for new camper trailer. This lock was reasonably priced, in line with other 'foreign'-named options. Lock arrived quickly AND much better theft protection than a lock through the trailer latching mechanism.
