If so what sort of cable?** A: Yes you need it. Disconnect all cables from battery negative terminal and connect them to StartShunt terminal labeled TO SYSTEM MINUS. Connect SmartShunt terminal labeled TO BATTERY MINUS directly to your battery negative terminal - using new piece of cable. Connect Vbatt+ terminal on SmartShunt to your battery positive terminal using one of the red cable with the fuse provided with SmartShunt. But I don’t regret it at all. Not only is it very versatile in being compatible with many different types of systems, voltages and batteries, extending its usefulness whichever direction k decide to go with my off grid system in future, but it’s so much more useful for monitoring battery bank status than voltage measurements. It’s constant output of information let’s you determine exactly what is going into and out of your battery, and gives you a much more useful and instantaneous idea of how long your battery bank will last under different usage scenarios. I couldn’t reccommend another Victron product more, and it integrates even better if you are using Victron products for your full installation. I only wish I knew this could perform the same features as the smart battery sense before I bought both of them.
