Entertaining and Educational
'Wushu Were Here' is an entertaining and educational insight into the world of Kung Fu and Chinese culture. In this travelog, Edmunds uses his wit and acquired knowledge to successfully take the reader on his journey with him during his trip to Dengfeng where we join him and his associates within their Kung-Fu school and in the wider region. A must read for anyone with an interest in China or Shaolin Kung-Fu. Thank you Nick Edmunds for sharing your experiences with us.

Excellent, amusing account of Kung Fu training in China
Having been disappointed by many travelogues in the past, especially those involving martial arts, I started this book expecting more of the same. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that "Wushu were here" was a hilariously engaging and honest account of the many challenges, delightful idiosyncrasies and frustratingly long-winded negotiations sometimes involved in achieving the simplest tasks whilst travelling and studying Kung Fu in rural China - a place which to a Westerner will often seem like a different planet. Easy to read and Bryson-like in places, I would thoroughly recommend this book to lovers of travel and martial arts, and as a must-read for those considering taking the plunge and training king Fu in china

A five-star entertaining read
No previous knowledge of China or martial arts is necessary to enjoy this informative and entertaining account of the author's stay at a Shaolin martial arts school. This extremely humorous book describes the ups and downs of life at the school, characters met along the way and an explanatory history of kung fu and of the region.A thoroughly enjoyable read - another book soon please.

A highly entertaining read
I'm not generally a big fan of travelogues, diaries, memoirs or autobiographies - I find the writing a bit smug and somewhat self-aggrandising as a rule. Nick Edmunds, however, has an engaging style in the tradition of the best old-fashioned raconteurs. It's richly descriptive, endearingly self-deprecating and effortlessly funny. Anyone who's considering a visit to China, particularly for martial arts training, should read this before they go. Or even before they book...

What an experience you can have visiting other places
A good read and felt I was with the travellers throughout their trial and tribulations and lots of fun on the way. My knowledge of China, Kung Fu and the teachings of Buddhism and the Shaolin Monks is much improved.
