I live in Hawaii and the humidity has been pretty bad lately so maybe the extra moisture on my hands and feet was causing me to slide a little. It's not extreme but bad enough that it can affect my concentration or pose. Other than that, I love everything about the mat. The feel, the look, the durability, the thickness. I don't know if all jute mats have this issue as I looked for a mat made of jute on the recommendation of a friend/yoga teacher so I will have to ask her next time I see her if she has experienced the same thing on her two jute mats which are made by another company.Update 1/25/2015: Most of the slipperiness has gone but after using the mat for a few weeks, I didn't notice it much anyway. The only other issues now are the areas of most contact are obvious and hard to clean. I recommend making sure the bottom of your feet are clean if you're practicing directly on the mat. It's like the jute fibers are slowly melding together under the areas your hands and feet spend the most amount of time and as this occurs, those areas become slightly stained. It's mostly cosmetic although it does appear that it's not as slippery in those areas which is a benefit. I'm starting to use a full-length yoga towel under me since practicing year-round in Hawaii can be a slippery experience due to heat and humidity. The towel I'm using stays nice and firm on the mat and does not slide around. Wished I'd done this earlier cause it probably would have saved me many mats.
