Master entrepreneur, original hip-hop mogul,ย and three-time New York Times bestselling authorย Russell Simmons offers an inspiring guideย to the benefits of conscious eating and veganism In the New York Times bestseller Success Through Stillness , Russell Simmons shared how meditation can be used as a powerful tool to access potential in all aspects of life, having seen himself how achieving inner peace led to outward success. In The Happy Vegan , Simmons shares how once he started practicing yoga and meditation, he became more conscious of his choices, particularly the choices he made regarding his diet. Simmons first adopted a vegetarian and then vegan diet, and almost immediately began to experience the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of eating green and clean. He delves into research about mindful eating, the links between stress and poor eating habits, the importance of listening to your body, the well-documented problems associated with eating animal products and processed foods, along with tips on how to transition to a vegan diet. Drawing on his own experience, the experiences of others, and science and research on the health benefits of conscious eating and veganism, The Happy Vegan is an accessible and inspiring guide to help others make the move toward a vegan diet and a more successful, focused, and purposeful life.

I love this book
I love this book. I almost didn't purchase this based on some of the reviews, but I'm glad I did. I can really relate to this book, probably better than some others. It made me really think about my food choices going further. There are also some great references in the book if you want to research further, which I am in the process of doing now. I have not completely stopped eating animal products, but find myself repulsed at the sight or smell of meat these days. A good read for the uninformed. I have already recommended it to others and they have also purchased. I believe Russell Simmons is a good person to put this information out to a demographic that may not see the value (or the inclination) to eat a plant based diet.

that was a real battle as I love eggs.
This got me on track again...I did however temporarily stop reading at the part that always disturbs me: how almost all chickens are raised, and their eggs produced. Cutting off their beaks! Living in crowded sheds never seeing the light of day during their whole lives! I stopped eating cows and pigs decades ago...this book inspired me to stop eating chicken and fish. I'm still vegetarian though...the only dairy I eat is small amounts of cheese - my milks are soy and nut milks. Then there's eggs...that was a real battle as I love eggs...but I recently discovered that there are three brands that derive their eggs from true free roaming hens (cage-free is misleading - to the research!). I was happy to find one of the three brands at Walmart - The Happy Egg Co. and paying only slightly more is well worth it for me (the other two are actually the same company: Backyard Eggs + Vital Farms Organic Eggs). Maybe I'll be 100% vegan one day...it's a process. The book is well written and easy to read, except for the necessary truth about how animals are treated.

I enjoyed reading the Happy Vegan
I enjoyed reading the Happy Vegan. It was an easy read, very informative. I started out not eating meat for 2 months then made a commitment to take diary out my diet. No on a plant base diet only and I feel GREAT. I am learning how to prepare some pretty delicious meals for myself and they have been full filling too. Thank you Russell Simmons and also after watching โWhat the Healthโ on Netflix I will continue following a vegan diet. I know it gets rather expensive; however you can pay now or pay later with your health! I highly recommend reading this book and watching the program on Netflix.

Great book!
I really enjoyed this book. It is always interesting to hear another persons journey from "normal" to plant-based living. I have enjoyed listening to Russell Simmons path for years now. His book does go into detail about how he came to where he is today and gives some clear reasons why he has chosen to become vegan but this is not a manual, or how to book that some people may be looking for. I am okay with how the book is written because his life story gives even more meaning to why I made the plant based vegetarian choice for my own life and family. If you already like Russell or are knew to learning about his life changing choices, you will like this book too. I recommend it to everyone.

Excellent
I have read several books promoting a vegan lifestyle, but this has been my favorite. I like the way Russell addresses health, animal cruelty and the environment- three totally different reasons to adopt the lifestyle. I like the way he explains the realities of how we get beef, pork, chicken and fish--so we can see the actual savagery. I love the information about yoga and meditation. I appreciate the anecdotes and struggles he included from his own life. Surprisingly, my favorite thing about this book is his voice. I mean his style, word choice and overall attitude...feels real...like I would hang out with this guy, so I want to consider these words. When I finished the book I didn't feel enraged or overly passionate, I just felt very calm.

Great book!
This is the 2nd time I bought this book. Gave the other to a friend. This is the book that started me down my plant based journey. I love the humble, honestly voice of this book. It really does a great job of laying out the 3 pillars of why we should eat vegan: 1) our health, 2) the health of the planet, 3) the animals. #plantpowered

Took a while for the book to be delivered, but it was certainly worth the wait due to the invaluable information it gives and the in-depth research used to support the claim that a plant-based diet is the best for humans.
