Fantastic!
Witnessing his father's death at age fourteen, Jimmy McSwain's life is forever altered. Instead of following his father as a cop, he becomes a hard boiled PI. Driving him onward is his desire to find out what really happened to his father.Harris Rothschild, a wealthy young man has disappeared. Jimmy gets hired by his parents to find him. What he thinks is a simple case, becomes like an iceberg, very little on top, but a whole lot underneath. This was an amazing read. It was exactly my shot of whiskey. The characters are complex. They completely draw you in. I had a hard time putting this down. It's a great story, with a nice dab of sex. This harks back to the Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett type of stories. Well done !

A new detective hits the pages
With Hidden Identity, Adam Christopher kicks off a new crime/mystery series featuring a twenty-eight year old openly gay New York City private investigator named Jimmy McSwain. While the book does contain a few sex scenes, it is far closer to traditional crime fiction than it is to Carpenterโs main body of work in the gay erotica short-fiction field. The author makes the transition to longer works capably, eschewing the classic porn โplot, what plot?โ sensibility in favor of a ton of world-building that shows this might be the first McSwain File but wonโt be the last.My detailed review can be found in Chelsea Station magazine: http://www.chelseastationmagazine.com/2014/07/hidden-identity-by-adam-carpenter.html

I really enjoy this series
I had read the second book in the Jimmy McSwain series before this one, the first one. I really enjoy this series. Mr. Carpenter strikes the perfect balance between m2m love and the case Jimmy's working on. Jimmy is also a great character: handsome, two fisted and tough. I recommend the book to any man who likes m2m romance and sex and who also likes a good story with a likable, manly character .

Private Eye Given Fascinating Definition Hidden Identity
From the beginning the plot kept my interest and attention. I found the character of Jimmy compelling and while the characters of his family members were sketchy, they were true to life. The author's attention to detail in the world of drag performers was instructive. The reconciliation that occurred among the mother and son was tender. I look forward to reading other Jimmy McSwain novels.

Wonderful Debut of Jimmy McSwain
Simple, but precise writing makes this a wonderful debut in the first Jimmy McSwain Files mystery; I freakin' love it; especially the character of McSwain and Jellison, Harris and Terry Cloth-not to mention the late introduction of the new police captain. Swift prose, exceptional inner thought and perfect dialogue make this a not-to-miss series.

A well-constructed mystery...
A well-constructed, taut story... Worth the read. I only wish that Amazon would proofread more of these Kindle books, and avoid some of the silly typos and grammatical errors. Makes it look amateurish. I enjoyed Carpenter's writing though.

Superlative
Great Book, exemplary characters and plot. The combination of family and sensuality is quite real, as is the NYPD dialogue/characters and the reality of how death/murder/grieving impacts lives. Mr. Carpenter's love for and understanding of New York City/Manhattan is clear and makes the story ring true. Anxious to read more of Jimmy McSwain, and more of Mr. Carpenter's other works.
