It’s a pamphlet with pictures of animals, numbers, and objects that you can make with the blocks. Some of the pictures do not use all the blocks.

Depends on the 12 year old! Some of the puzzles can be quite challenging.

Q: Does it come with game cards?

No cards, but it does come with a piece of paper showing 27 different animals / objects / arrangements you can make with the pieces.

Q: How deep is the play area (center) of the game? I'm looking for the inside of the board where you place the pieces?

The deep is just about 0.9CM or 0.35" inch... If you want to try to make it different shape, the inside area is too small...You have to take out all the pieces outside to do it.
