7-8 dash-like perfs. It works really well for a home cutter & easy. You just need to make sure you hold the paper against the guide.

yes it can cut standard letter size paper

Can it handle perforating heavy cardstock?

Yes it will. I made trip-fold brochures on card stock and I was able to perforate three of them at a time.
