## Description

Starting with sewing? What you need is a reliable sew machine that'll help you navigate the basics, make learning easy and fun, and is even portable enough to bring from room to room - or from sewing class, to home, to closets for storage when not in use. The Janome 2212 provides all this, without the complicated fuss of digital bells and whistles, making it quite easily the best sewing machine for beginners. This beginner sewing machine kit runs on a reliable electric motor and includes a classic foot pedal. Place it on a tabletop - press to sew, release to stop. It's just that easy. Beginners will love how quickly they learn rhythm, control, and stitch accuracy. Nothing computerized here, so all you need to focus on is your technique - you can save the complex stuff when you've gotten your groove. At only 14 lbs., the Janome 2212 is an ideal first sewing machine. You can carry the beginner friendly sewing machine to lessons, move around the house, or store in between projects. Since it's small, the stitch machine for clothes is compact enough for apartments, sewing corners, and hobby spaces. The beginning sewing machine can handle a bunch of fabrics, from cotton, canvas, knits, light home decor, and even jeans hems or repairs (with the right denim needle!). The extra-high presser foot lift will help you manuever around thicker seams - though keep in mind, this little sewing machine isn't suitable for heavy-duty or industrial-level materials. The high quality of the Janome 2212 is one reason why it's constantly one of the top rated sewing machines for beginners. It's an amazingly versatile white sewing machine; remove the accessory tray for a narrow free arm for mending cuffs, hemming, sleeves, and your child's clothing. Switch to drop-feed mode for quilting, darning, and free-motion stitching. The lightweight sewing machine expands your creativity past simple repairs! Explore more with the Janome 2212!

Review: This machine is absolutely amazing for the price, user friendly, beginner friendly..love it
Review: I looked for a machine to do simple tasks as I use to do as I grew up with my grandma's 1930th shuttle knock-off copy of Jones Family CS made by nascent Red Russia industry (I would dream to have this machine back!). I prefer to fix pants length and jacket sleeves myself as it's easier for me to do it to my liking then to explain it to others. Also kids' stuff needs occasional small fixing before it's ready to be replaced. So, I looked for something simple and inexpensive, but functional and dependable. I saw good reviews on Janome 2212 (it's relatively small brand - that also original manufacturer for some other brands, including top-of-the-line names like Bernina) that not cared by major US brick-and-mortar stores, at least not in my city. desertcart had a good price on it and I placed an order. Here the 5 star review starts. First - service: As it arrived (a day before estimated delivery date - no complains :)) I found that - already good - price dropped by anther $29.80. So, I contacted desertcart customer service (on-line) and asked to call me back. I got call a few seconds after I pressed "submit" button, and within 5 minutes (and without any hard pressure on my side) I was issued a refund on this amount - looks like desertcart has policy to refund difference if price dropped within 7 days upon product delivery! So, I opened machine and used it for a day and noticed some problems that made me concerned that it may be factory refurbished or damaged unit (it had surface marks and scratches and twice locked the needle). I contacted desertcart again and asked what should I do as I want to keep the machine. They offered a replacement. They organized UPS pick-up from my porch for the next morning and sent replacement by FedEx the same day, so I received it just a day later! The service is well above my expectations! As for Janome 2212 itself - it's a solid no thrill mechanical machine that makes routine sewing tasks easy (I have no expertise to talk about complex tasks). The speed is varied by floor pedal pressure the same way gas pedal in a car control acceleration and easy to get use to by any casual car driver, as majority of Americans are (but it has no "break" pedal, so if you running "high speed" sewing it will make a few stitches after you'll release the pedal). It has reverse switch, but it can't be fixed - you need to hold it all the time when doing reverse (it's my only functional complain). It has enough variations in types and length of stitches to cover all non-decorative (and, presumably, some decorative) tasks, but so far I used just default. I feel it can compete with my old Grandma's machine in durability (I sewed through multi-fold denim edges with little if any hesitation!) and even offer some advantages as free-arm and electric power (early 21st century vs. early 20th :)). It's a basic, but not the simplest machine from Janome. But going even more basic will not give enough monetary advantage to be worth of - to save anther $20 or $30 (it's when not on the sale price) you need to sacrifice variable stitch length (important future!) and a few stitch types. Going up - to get "heavy-duty" or top-line electronic machine - it's almost to double price (or go much above), for futures that one may or may not needs (I don't), on potential account of reliability (it's a general rule: giving the same part quality, more complexity comes on account of reliability, and has nothing to do with Janome quality control specifically). So, I'm very comfortable with build and price/value balance on Janome 2212 model.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Good machine for TOTAL beginner? Need to buy anything with it--needles, bobbins, etc? What color is it--white/cream and green/blue? Thank you!**
A: Yes, it is a good machine especially for a total beginner. Why? Because 1. It's not one of those toys going for $25.00 that breaks as soon as you plug it in, causes frustration and you end up quitting; and 2. Janome is one of the top 3 BEST sewing machine makers in the world. They stand behind their products and they do not disappoint. Very few Janomes end up in the repair shop. You want to start out with something simple so you can avoid confusion and learn the basics like I did. This machine is simple. If you have a good teacher (yeah, Youtube can be very helpful), follow the instruction manual, take your time and start with small simple projects you will do fine on this machine. This is why so many schools buy this very model for their sewing students in home ec class. This machine is white just like in the photo. It comes with a 5 pack of spare universal needles size 12 and maybe 6 spare bobbins. You should buy needles since you should change needles every project or every 4 hours of sewing time which ever comes first. Janome Brand, Organ or Schmetz flat shank are good. If you need more bobbins I would find a certified Janome dealer to buy from. Not all bobbins fit all machines. Do not use anything SINGER with this machine. And finally, make sure you buy from an authorized Janome dealer or the warranty will be void. Contact Janome for a list of dealers in your area. They have a website and FB page.

**Q: Will a Janome sewing machine have a warranty if it is purchased through Amazon?**
A: I spoke with Amazon, they stated that IF it is an AUTHORIZED Janome Dealer who is selling the Janome Sewing Machine, then YES the 25 year Warranty is good....HOWEVER, for REPAIRS you MUST send the Machine to the Janome Office in NJ.

**Q: Heavy duty enough for blue jeans?**
A: The trick is to get the right needle. So look for heavy duty or denim needles . You can use Schmetz or Organ brand for this machine as well as Janome's needles. Do not use any Singer products on this machine.

**Q: quilting**
A: I purchased this machine for my daughter so that when I visited her in another state I would have something to do. I was sewing ragtime quilts for her girls. I was concerned about sewing through so many layers and might need to get a special presser foot. I did not need anything extra. not. It is a great machine!
