This stuff is amazing
I got this toothpaste powder for a through-hike where every gram carried counts — the powder is lighter than the toothpaste "tabs" that are common among ultralight hikers, but which usually don't contain fluoride, and which to me have a weird texture. I bought this as an experiment not really sure how I would like it, but this tooth powder has well and truly exceeded my expectations. It leaves my teeth feeling super clean — my teeth feel clean for hours after brushing, even overnight — and in that sense it out-performs the Colgate Total toothpaste I was using previously. In addition, it has a mild refreshing flavor that plays well with other strong flavors, like coffee, rather than competing with them in unfortunate ways like the Total. And knowing it contains fluoride gives me peace of mind. The tin is adorable, as is the drawing of the muscular tooth, but I do find the tin a little hard to dispense the powder from accurately and without spills. Decanting some powder into a resealable wide-mouthed container you can dip a (dry) tooth brush head into solved that issue for me.

Good product, burns my mouth
This is a great product; however, I found the powder to be very painful. It burned my gums and tongue. I liked the flavor and the way it makes my teeth feel. I will use it, but in much smaller doses. The cap is horrible, I had to move it to another. This product does what it says. It might be me with the burning. Is that the way for others?

You'll need to drill your own hole...
I love this stuff for its environmentally-friendly packaging, and it's great to have total control over the amount of powder that is EXTREMELY foamy. But you will need to punch a hole in the cap to access the product, which is a weird oversight or maybe a cultural thing. It is super duper minty. Way more minty than toothpaste in a tube. It also feels a bit more gritty and the cleaning effect seems to last longer than tube toothpaste. But I can't say that it is any more or less whitening. I think the main long-term benefit is freshness. And it is way more economical in the long run. One can lasts about six months, whereas a tube of toothpaste lasts about one month. I've never had a cavity or any dental disease, so I take my dental care dead serious, and this stuff is great. But if I want to whiten, I use strips.

Been using tooth powder since childhood
Don't laugh. Colgate tooth powder gets your teeth the cleanest and the whitest. It's what we used when I was a kid growing up in the 60's and 70's. It literally scrubs your teeth, whitens them and leaves your mouth super fresh. I can't believe I found this product. Toothpaste just doesn't cut it compared to this.

Tooth powder good, packaging bad
My family used Pepsodent tooth powder when I was a kid. I used to love it. I have never seen it since. I thought I'd try this brand to see if I liked it. I like the flavor and the grit a lot. It tastes similar to Pepsodent. Wintergreen flavor, something like a wintergreen LifeSaver as someone pointed out. I really like that it is a powder instead of the usual paste. Powder does not create foam in your mouth so you don't have it overflowing down your chin. Much cleaner. It cleans the teeth just as well as a paste and leaves a pleasant taste in the mouth. You need a minimal amount so it is more economical than paste. I am glad I tried it. One thing I don't like, which many reviewers complained about, is the terribly designed plastic cap. I deducted two stars for this. First of all I think it should be metal like the can, with an easy to remove sanitary plastic seal around it when new. Instead it is all plastic. And here's the problem. It has a flip-top cap on top of a larger fixed cap, force fitted to the metal spout of the can. The fixed cap has a small hole with a collar around it for pouring, with a thick plastic plug at the bottom of the cap that is molded in place. It is almost impossible to pierce it without incurring serious injury because it is so thick. Many people gave up and some stuck a heated pointed object into it to pierce it, making a mess. That didn't satisfy me. I managed to get the base cap off by screwing it counterclockwise while forcing it upward. I then drilled out the hole with a 5/16" bit in a speed-controlled electric hand drill at slow speed, resting the cap against a block of wood. The bit was an exact fit and the hole came out pretty clean. Forcing the cap back onto the spout, it looked fairly professional. See pictures for details. No one should have to go to this length to open a can of tooth powder. It is ridiculous. Very poor design that is potentially dangerous. Another thing is, the flip-top cap doesn't close tightly. It lifts up with a feather touch. Not what you want with a powder. There are a lot of complaints about the can being beyond the expiration date but they are probably by people who didn't read the back label on the can. The label reads: "EXPIRY 24 MONTHS FROM MFD." "MFD. MONTH, YEAR & B. NO. SEE BOTTOM" The date on the bottom of the can is "10-20 B31," meaning that the MFD. (Manufacturing Date) is 10-31-2020, I think, and the expiry date is 24 months LATER, on 10-31-2022. See pictures for details.

So glad to find this!
I loved Dr. Lyon's tooth powder when I was little. I've spent decades looking for a substitute, including a disastrous attempt to make my own. To the best of my memory this powder is identical with a cool, gentle mint taste at a good price.

Just like it was in my childhood 70 years ago!
I like the gentle grit and same taste I remember. The lid is disfunctional, but I need to put it in a jar with an airtight seal anyway since I live in a tropic area. My teeth feel smoother and are looking whiter after just a couple of weeks. Coffee stains are fading nicely It only takes little dabs of powder to clean each quadrant area. It lasts a long time and works great. It's the same price as a tube.

The container is a nightmare as there is no actual opening hole so, I just take the lid completely off and place it in a small air tight container. The product itself is amazing hence the 5 stars. It leaves your teeth quite literally squeaky clean. Although, I can not use it on a daily basis as it makes the cracks of my mouth sore. Not sure if I'm somewhat sensitive to it but, this is the 9th time I have now purchased it and I will still continue to purchase it.

This is a product my mother used to buy back in the 70's. Same tin, same great fresh taste. I use an electric toothbrush, so I shook the contents into a small, close-able (against bathroom humidity) container and just dip a clean wet brush head into the powder and go for it. There is a wonderful freshness in the mouth and the powder polished the enamel for glass smooth finish. I wish they sold it at home still, but 2 containers should last 6 months at least.

"Super Rakshak" (Super Protecteur).
