Yes, it would light a stairway. I got LED bulbs that are pretty bright. It is not heavy.

The bulb holders are bent at awkward angles, is this a defect or can they be straightened?

Yes, we bent it when we packed it. You can straighten it when you install it

I don’t think I would. It’s more of an interior light, and I doubt it would weather well outside.
