CDs that use to sound thin and clinical have a warm, rich, and highly detailed presentation. Mine shipped with EL34 power tubes which sound great, but at some point I may upgrade to the KT88s which should have an even bigger sound. It has more than enough power to drive my Focal 826s. If you like music you'll love this amp. Review: Great sounding amp - A well made, reliable and powerful full function integrated amplifier that can be used as a power amp by the flick of a switch. It can handle from EL34s to KT150s (for 85 w/ch) and everything in between easily, thanks to its excellent bias feature. The preamp section (2x12AX7 plus 2x12AT7) is outstanding, in the sense that it clearly reveals the sound signature of the tubes employed...even the so important 12AT7 drivers. The amp sounds really good with KT88s, it likes these tubes, but recently tried Gold Lion KT77s and this was a fantastic musical experiencie. A truly great sounding amplifier that will reward tube rolling with even better sound. Very highly recommended
