I’ve had this hose reel installed for a week now, and I’m already loving the convenience it brings. The retractable feature is a game-changer, keeping my yard looking tidy and saving me from the hassle of coiling hoses manually. However, the installation process was a bit of a saga. The instructions recommended a drill bit that was too large, so when I drilled into the stud, the bolts just spun freely. This meant I had to relocate the mount, drill another set of holes, and patch the old ones—talk about a DIY detour! Also, some of the instructions were hard to understand — definitely not a native-English writer. For anyone installing this on wood without anchors, I’d suggest starting with a smaller drill bit than what the instructions recommend. Only go larger if the bolts give you trouble. This little tip could save you a lot of time and frustration like I had. Despite the installation hiccup, the reel itself is fantastic. It’s sturdy, swivels smoothly, and rewinds the hose with ease. If you’re looking for a reliable hose reel and don’t mind straying from the instructions, this one is a solid choice. Just be prepared to improvise a bit during installation. Happy watering!

I was a little sceptical of the hose reel but after having used it for a while not I'm pleased with how it works. The only problem I've had with it is we had someone water for us while we were gone and they tried to push the hose in when they couldn't figure out how to get the reel to do it. Messed up the hose inside so had to pull most of the hose out and let the hose reel do it's job, so no real issue. I mounted this to a 4 x 4 post (see pic) and it's rock solid buried about 2 ft of post in concrete and cut some grooves so bolts would fit and not have to add another board to mount to, came out clean looking and rock solid. Longevity? it's only been a month or so but it seems like it's good for the long haul but time will tell.

5/12/2025> updated to 4 stars after receiving a full replacement unit under TWO YEAR warranty. TO BE FAIR HERE, evidently with my original issues & review below a year ago I did not follow the proper procedure to notify the manufacturer of my issues through Amazon? I called the support number I thought Amazon had listed. Their e-mail communications (I found months later) offering to send a complete replacement unit were in my spam e-mail unread (my error). I had called the company direct, evidently you need to work through Amazon via e-mail to send your address. Once I responded via e-mail to their e-mail offer with my info I had a complete brand new unit on my doorstep in a few days. The bottom line is the unit has a two year warranty and they stood behind it. That was the right move here as the unit was defective. I am hopeful this one holds up better. I will probably just use the replacement stainless steel 8’ connector hose I bought for it after the first hose sprung a leak. I will use this new replacement unit for a while and update if I have issues or it works okay after a year. **********XXXXX My Original review of the first unit is here for reference>>>>>>. I thought I found the perfect hose reel solution for my wife to use to water plants & pots scattered across our rear patio area of 50-70 ‘ that mimics what I use in the garage for my air compressor hose. A smooth & easy way to uncoil hose up to 90’ and have it recoil easily & quickly. I bought the Giraffe AW40 5/8th”x 90’ in May of 2024 with that thought . NOT SO. Within a couple of months the intake hose sprung a pin hole leak (see photo)then multiples. The mechanism for rewinding is not consistent or reliable ( see video) when pulling out hose and trying to let it recoil back. Sometimes you can see the hose carrier part (white part in gear) freeze & not move back and forth as it should to evenly coil from side to side. Sounds like some clanking / noise too. We have never just let it go, we always walk it back from where it has been stretched out. It rarely is out past 50’. I initially e-mailed Giraff customer support on leaking hose….nothing back. For the purchase price of $169.00 it is not what I expected. I would look elsewhere as others have similar comments.

I really like this hose real. I have been researching different hose reels for a long time and to get a good one I was going to have to pay a lot like $500 plus which are very heavy and need to be mounted to something very strong. This hose reel is easy to install on any wall or pile and I like how it very easily stops where u want after extending it, it’s lightweight but nothing imunmanageable. I hope it holds up for along time because I try my best to take good care of my things and only buy things that will last me along time. I doubt the plastic sprayer holds up for too long it seems very cheaply made so I replaced it anyways with a brass one that I’ve had forever. If this hose reel lasts me along time without problems I plan on buying the pressure washer I love how it mounts on the wall and all the hoses are neatly organized. It would be so nice to be able to just pull out the pressure washer hose and have everything ready to go whenever I wanted to quickly pressure wash sonething

I don't normally write reviews about items purchased 5 years ago, however this one really ticks me off. The Giraffe tools AW30 has a very large flaw in its design that I will bet 98% of all purchasers don't discover until they have owned the unit 3+ years. Enough time to forget when it was purchased , and definitely long enough to figure that out they should probably just buy a new one. This would normally include me, but not this time. The flaw that unwinds the whole thing, no pun intended , is a 5 cent piece of plastic that is a part of the distribution mechanism that tracks left and right laying the hose on the reel as it is reeled back in. When this 5 cent piece of plastic breaks, the whole thing breaks down and nothing works. This is planned failure in my opinion. I have purchased a number of hose reels on the last 35 years of homeownership and Im have never seen anything built like this. Try and find a part for a five year old hose reel, good luck! So pony up another $150 and just dispose of what's left... Garbage . Designed to fail from day one.... it just takes a couple years....

This reel is very well made easy to use I installed on a-post was easy Makes car washing a breeze

This is a nice contraption, in the sense that it automatically swivels in the direction that you're pulling the hose, and that it reels in the hose when you're done using it. Unfortunately, though, when I turned on the water this spring, there was a massive leak (more like a gush) from the bottom of the unit. I am a VERY handy person, with just about every tool one could want, but my attempts to take it apart were in vain. I would have had to destroy the unit to do so. I've only had this hose reel for four seasons, and clearly I am going to have to replace it. The question is, is it worth the money, if I'm going to have to replace it every four years? I'm not sure about that.

I am revising my review to 5 stars as a result of the response and great support I received from Grace at Giraffe. She was genuinely concerned about my experience and the product quality. Products occasionally have minor flaws and when Grace took control of my order, she was great. I am now a very happy and satisfied customer. I will not hesitate to buy Giraffe products specifically because of their support and service. I bought this item on June 27, 2025 very excited to have an automatic retractable hose. I mounted it immediately and have used it every day until August 5 (9 DAYS AFTER THE 30 DAY WARRANTY) when the hose itself blew up like an anaconda that just ate 5 rats. 5 big bulges in the hose, and then it split and leaked uncontrollably. I filed a product quality issue with Giraffe, but they haven't even responded. BUYERS BE WARE!

Pas encore installé car acheté en fin de saison. Ce sera pour le printemps prochain. Le produit me semble solide. On verra à l'usage mais je suis satisfait de la qualité pour le moment.

Great product! We did have a slight issue with the hose not reeling back in after the first season of use. I reached out to the company through Amazon and they sent us a new one within a few days. Amazing customer service. We have 2 of these and would highly recommend.

Hose retracts and works fine however weight of hose filled with water has caused plastic mounting to sag with sun exposure. Would not recommend this design for the 100ft hose UPDATED: Fantastic customer service. Followed up on my review and replace unit Seller deserves 5Star based on desire to make it right

Came as advertised

Sometimes gets stuck when reeling in. It is fairly heavy so make sure what ever it is you have it attached to is strong and/or reinforced. It is a smaller gage hose but has lots of pressure. The spray nozzle works well, the auto reel works good other than Sometimes having to give it a little tug to get it to continue to roll in. It is very easy to install, also easy to take off the mount to bring in for storage.
