OK, I finally decided to purchase a bag. I recently started wearing reading glasses, so I need to carry those. Along with my sunglasses. And my cell phone. Just not enough pockets. Plus, I would like to pick up one of the new larger cell phones, but have not because I don’t want to carry it in my pocket. The phone I have is as large as I want to carry. But, the reading glasses pushed me over the top. I started looking for a bag. Nothing fancy or dressy, not that kind of person. And, not too large. There are a bunch of options out there. I finally zeroed in on Scruffy Dog. I really like their large messenger bag. But, I really did not need one that large. But, I sure liked it. Then I saw their small messenger bag. Just the right size. Has room for my reading and sun glasses. Along with whatever size cell phone I would be likely to pick up. Has lots of room for other stuff, like my Kindle. I could fit in a smaller tablet. Turns out my iPad Pro fits. Not in the cushioned pouch, but inside. And it zips up with the iPad. So, in a pinch, it will work. The main compartment has a zipper accessible without lifting the flap, so it is very handy. Under the flap is another zipper compartment which I use for the cell phone. It seems more secure and protected. The glasses go in pouches in the main compartment. There are several other zippered compartments. Really more that I use right now. But, give me a few weeks. You know how that goes. I like it. Very well made, should last a long time. Now, that larger messenger bag. Still trying to convince myself I don’t need one. But, I would like one, it would be great for those times when I need to carry more. Yeah, we’ll see. Good stuff, glad I found them.

Nice bag! Supple yet seemingly durable fabric material (if you need something with more structure, look at other options). I like the rugged aesthetic and the faded coloration. Ample storage (for my needs), with multiple pockets inside and out. Size is good -- not too large to make it unwieldy but not too petite to look feminine. I like the hardware detailing. I just wish it had two zippers (instead of one) for the main enclosure so I can choose which side the zipper would be positioned. Overall, has an outlier vibe to it. Good value!

So for the money, this is an excellent value. Honestly though, I wish it looked a bit more like the larger bag they make but in a smaller size. Often times, when I am on vacation or business trip, I might want to go out for a few hours. Maybe I want some sunglasses, headphones, charger, maybe some other supplies, and I don't want to stuff my jean pockets or beg my wife to carry them for me in her bag. For this purpose I chose this bag. It's for casual use, so I wasn't looking for something designed to go with a suit or business attire. Just a casual bag that isn't too heavy (it often lives in my suitcase), or too big. I was torn on what kind of design and material I was looking for, but the sort of vintage canvas idea seemed like a winner. I didn't want to look like I was carrying some kind of man purse as a fashion statement. Nor was I willing to give up all dignity and use a fanny pack. So this was a happy compromise. As to the bag, given the price, it is exceptionally well made. Nice attention to detail, it's not bad at all. My only real criticism, is it's probably over engineered. There are an unnecessary number of pockets, a little too much padding in some of them. This wastes space, and requires a lot more thought when looking for items. Now I daresay if you use this bag a lot, and have a highly organized OCD kind of mindset, maybe this is for you. For me, I'd say 2-3 fewer pockets would have been ideal. This was only an occasional bag for me, so I'm not going to learn where everything goes, as I might with my Tumi backpack I take on the plane and to business meetings. Bottom line, at this price point, this is excellent. I'd totally buy a version 2.0 if they ever update the design. I definitely got the vibe that this company cares about what they produce more than they care about mass production and maximizing sales. There are a lot of terrible poor quality items in this segment, and these guys really did rise above. I've mentioned my reasons for 4/5 stars, but I could easily see this being 5/5 for people with a slightly different criteria.

This is the end all be all for light messenger bags. First and formost its rugged; you want a bag that will last you more than a life time? You got it! This bag is made super thick canvas with bomb proof stitching YET IT IS STILL INCREADABLY LIGHT! I've gone through a multitude of varying fannypacks, shoulder bags, and chest packs and they all feel "fine" to carry, but it dosent compare to this bag. The shoulder strap is soft and wide and also strong makeing toteing around your junk a breeze. Not to mention the bag is stylish as all get out. The logo for Scruffy Dog is badass and the bronze plate that bears it is quite the eye catcher. Wherever you go wearing this rest assured you will look like an absolute pimp to the plebens carrying stuff in their pockets! Finally this is a small, new business out of Australia that is in a market saturated by cheap products; in which they are actually making an effort to make high quality goods. Need you an any better reason to show some support? I can tell that Scruffy Dog is gonna be one of those things that start small but in a few years time we are all gonna be paying top dollar for their products.

Stop. Stop scrolling through the endless bags that Amazon has to offer because you've just found the bag you're looking for. This is the ultimate carry bag. It's perfect. Compact, holds WAY more than it looks like it can, lightweight and yet incredibly sturdy and durable. Straps are thick and strong - no one is snatching this bag from you. One "secret" zipper pocket - perfect for the smaller must-haves in your everyday needs or to hide away a few dollars. Outside zipper pocket is perfect for your phone. Inside the main part of the bag, it can easily hold a composition notebook along with wallet, keys, charger and extras, the foam/material divider separates the book from the other items and the bag zips up snugly over it so it won't sag or flip over. The pocket under the flap is a bottomless pit - seriously - you can put so many things in there and you STILL have room AND still retrieve the things you need without having to dig through it. Everything from floss to face cream to pepper spray to Band-Aids and everything else that you could possibly need. This is the best bag I've ever owned...and I've owned quite a few. I spent months browsing the Amazon pages of messenger and carry bags and found a lot that were nice-looking but didn't quite check every box that I was needing. I came across the Scruffy Dog and instantly liked it and even more so after reading all the other positive reviews and even MORE so after I received it and tried it out. This is my forever bag. I'm seriously considering purchasing another just to have when and if my current one ever wears out. It is so durable and quality that I know it's going to last years. Highly, highly, definitely, definitely recommend! I'm checking back to their site occasionally to see if they add to their line because these company is fantastic and makes quality bags for decent prices.

I bought this to help complete an adventurer's costume for a party. It looks great and fit the bill perfectly. It was one of the few leather-free satchels on Amazon too (it's polyester), which was a lot harder to find than you'd think. While there are listings from Chinese companies that claim to use faux leather for their bags, the reality is that many lie and use real leather regardless --- and in some cases, they use leather that comes from dogs and cats, which is even more horrifying. Scruffy Dog Trading Co., meanwhile, has an actual American/Australian address that you can see on their website, plus a YouTube channel with professionally created videos, so it feels like a more trustable/legit business. The bag itself is comfortable to wear, has a fair number of pockets and feels roomier than its size might make you think, and is solidly built. It's an overall high-quality build, and I think it'll last for many years to come. I would recommend it to anyone. Great bag.

Had bag for almost 2 weeks. Love the bag, love the size and layout. It’s my everyday carry bag. But the stitching is already spitting on the outside of the bag.

UPDATE TO REVIEW: 16th Sept 2024 Avoid this bag. The badge on the front has worked loose and is a hazard making the bag unusable. This has been a complete waste of money and I’m so disappointed with this bag. Three serious faults which occurred just outside of the returns period. Absolute junk. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I bought this bag because it was a little different; I ignored some of the bad reviews about the zip because I liked it. However, just after my return window closed the zip came off and the handle in now coming lose. Avoid this bag unless you are prepared to spend money getting it repaired.

It’s good and easy carry, mobile phone, keys and other small items are all in the bag now, my husband loves it!

This is my second scruffydog bag. I had the last one for ten years. I am sure this one will be equally as durable.
