Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised In Brief, 2nd edition (Roberts Rules of Order in Brief) [Robert III, Henry M., Honemann, Daniel H, Balch, Thomas J, Seabold, Daniel E., Gerber, Shmuel] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised In Brief, 2nd edition (Roberts Rules of Order in Brief) Review: Excellent guidelines for small or relatively informal organizations - This book is a surprisingly concise, practical, and well written overview of the most essential points of Robert's Rules of Order. It's particularly well suited for small organizations, especially those that have been run relatively informally and would like to add more predictability and structure to their meetings, but would find adoption of the full Robert's Rules of Order to be too burdensome. It's also a good introduction for people newly elected/appointed to positions of leadership or responsibility (officers and board members, for example), but who don't have a lot of practical experience with meeting procedures. You won't become a parliamentarian by reading this book, but if you are looking for guidelines (as opposed to detailed rules) for simple meetings and organizations, this is an excellent primer. Also, the reference tables of motions and other procedures at the back of the book is very handy. Review: Must Buy! - If you have joined a small organization or committee that runs it's meetings using Robert's Rules, this book is absolutely 100% worth the money and time to read it. It's a quick read, concise, gives a good overview for most small organizations to effectively run meetings, vote appropriately, and keep accurate records. If you have need of more detail regarding by-laws, meeting minutes and records, etc, then the full RRNR might be better for you; but even then this book is a great reference to have on hand.

Served its purpose and more
I was forced to buy a Robert's Rules book by a bully on our Board of Directors. I didn't want to go with the Dummies series, too obvious? I though this was going to be one step up. To my surprise, this was actually a good read. It has also enabled me to tell the Board Bully to shut her face. Ok, maybe not, but I want to! Seriously though, this book will give you the basics, which is all you really will need in 99% of meeting situations. Good Luck!

Excellent concise Summary of meeting procedures BUT NO HELP with interruptions or refusal to accept rulings
Gave concise summary of situations but little on how to deal with problems. The text 'assumed' people would 'obey' the rules - not so. I found excellent guidelines as to conduct and order of business and proceedures - easy to locate and follow BUT Absolutely NO HELP with situations where persons continually interupt and/or refuse to accept a ruling and what to do next other than 'adjourn the meeting' Needs more help here.

Great Resource for the Basics
Use in conjunction with full version of Roberts Rules. Contains a summary of the basics but the most helpful portions are the Tables at the end of the book on Handling Motions, Conducting a Meeting, Table of Rules and Words to use as a Member. Great for explaining common errors such as "Calling the Question" instead of the actual process for "Previous Question" and more importantly why you should care. Demonstrates how the rules should be properly applied using examples of simulated motions etc. As a summary, you still need the full version to drill down on specifics but I refer to this most often and it covers 90% of what's needed at most meetings.

Excellent Laymen's Handbook
GREAT resource tool. It takes the key elements from Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised and simplifies them. Perfect for a general understanding and for those learning the ropes of running meetings.

I bought it to teach a course on formal meetings at university. It worked very well. Some cultural differences between US and European meeting styles though. More consensus building here.

This is the way to go. Well written and concise. I was surprised at the changes in the Newly Revised version. Friends, who chair meetings, were surprised. This is a great handy we to review the basics and get up to speed. If you are chairing a formal or large board / meeting, I doubt very much that it has the level of detail you'll need. But for the basics, this is simply great.
