Highschool of the Dead Color, Full Color Edition

Ever so rarely do you find a full color manga. There are only a few titles out there that can be said they deserve similar treatment, most Japanese books, while printed in thicker volumes then American comics, are printed in black and white with only a few color pages and printed on (depending on the publisher) rough paper. Not this beauty. The size of a college text book the HOTD Color Omnibus contains the first 4 four volumes (or the first season of the OVA) of the original manga in bright contrasting colors printed on more then 700 glossy pages in a hard cover bind [take a peek at the inside of the dust jacket ;) ], giving a serious show casing of Shouji Satou skill to western readers. This is a book you want your guest to see, sitting on your coffee, open to the infamous shower segment in "Night of the Dead" chapter, showing that you are a pound reader of Japanese comic books. While the actual story of the series is nothing to write home about, your conventional zombie apocalypse told through the eyes of a high school slacker and the other students he teams up with, it is the interaction between the characters that make this series work. Takashi Komuro is your classic shlub, totally unmotivated about anything in his life, he spirals into deeper depression when his life long childhood Rei Miyamoto dates another boy. Then the Undead attack. It is only then when his classmates are being eaten and turned into "Them" that Takashi starts to become a man. Saeko Busujima is a master swordswoman. President of the schools kendo club she is descended from a great martial arts family, Saeko is able to cleave her way through the horde with near orgasmic rapture, having suppressed a deep masochistic side of herself that is release as heads and limps start to fly. Saeko also knows how to read people, understanding motivate she becomes the groups sprit guide and psychologist. Saya Takagi and Kohta Hirano are two sides of the same coin. Both are smart as whips, however Saya's geniuses has made her arrogant and mean spirited while Kohta intelligence has made him meek and submissive. It's not until Saya is forced apart from her own family and seeing the sacrifices of others that she learns humility. Kohta is born again as dead loom around him, because if Japan had an NRA he would be the president. A natural marksman, Kohta can use any small arm like a master surgeon using a scalpel. It was while writing this review that I notice something. Takashi, Saeko, and Kohta are all people who wouldn't make it in a normal world. It is only as society crumps do they really find themselves. Takashi is able to make life saving decisions in a instant, Saeko found a way to purge her desire to cause pain, and Kohta is no longer a weak little nerd.

When I first saw that Yen Press was releasing a full color omnibus I was excited but didn't expect to buy it. I don't have the black and white prints and for a college student 50$ is pretty steep. Amazon however was selling it for 30$ and there are four complete volumes in it, so it's actually a better deal to buy the omnibus and I am so glad I did. I usually don't like the omnibus editions of things because they are thick and paperback and the spines get ruined so easily but not only is this a full color omnibus edition, it is also hardcover. Score! I have actually only ever watched the anime, never got around to reading the manga but so far it seems pretty similar. I loved the story and art of the series and if you know anything about the series than you should probably be able to figure out if you would like it or not pretty easily. If you are offended by big boobs, panty shots and gore than this probably isn't for you. None of that bothers me however and a manga about zombies is something I am all over. Soon Yen Press is going to release Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka? too! Back to the product, I am not sure what the black and white editions had as far as extras go but the large full color photos are a great edition to the series that you can't get from the anime, and the cover alone makes the book worth it. The cover is textured on one side which adds depth and best of all, it's reversible! The color adds clear distinction between things that sometimes confuse me in action packed manga printed in black and white. Overall I would say this is a great purchase.

I am a big fan of the HOTD series. I already bought the mangas but who could resist a colored collector's edition. When the package arrived, the omnibus was huge. the dust jacket was embossed. gonna save up for the next volume. this is definitely a collector's edition. the pages are glossy. totally worth it to get this omnibus edition.

Great book. Awesome purchase at a hell of a price. The dust cover doubles as a pin-up poster and the overall quality of this behemoth is top notch. It's a steal at the current price ($40 U.S?? That's crazy for this kind of QUALITY). If you love anime/manga, and you enjoyed Highschool of the Dead, this is a collector's dream. With beautiful artwork in FULL COLOR, very detailed illustrations, AMAZING FANSERVICE and it looks great on my shelf with or without the dust cover. The other reviews should be more than enough for you to make an informed decision but if not, I'll post some pictures of the amazing art work and book itself but I'm giving this a 10/10 and a must buy. Other manga companies should take notes because we need more of these from more manga in the future! This is how you do a Full color Omnibus!

My first ever anime I watched came well wrapped, no damages perfect story.

Very excited to finally have this beauty in my collection. It comes with the first 4 volumes of HOTD in full color, which for only $40, felt like a very fair and great price. This thing is huge; and it looks absolutely amazing. Would highly recommend to anyone who liked the HOTD anime.

I have to give it up to the creators of High School Of The Dead, this book was a wet zombie dream come true. I am a big fan of everything zomibe and gore. Before I read this book I watched the anime based of the book first and just feel in love with the story. After I just had to read the light manga. Which brings me to my review of this amazing book. I dont read manga or some specific graphic novels because I hate the lack of color, thin I discovered High School Of The Dead Full Color Edition 1 Omnibus book and that changed everything for me. The full color edition collects the frst 5 mangas in the series. The paper used in this book is very lush and colorful. I could not recommend this any highly to any who loves zombies, or someone looking for a good horror story to read. Now go out there and bash some zombie heads. P.S My favorite moment in the whole book is when the outbrake starts there is 2 girls running for safety and one gets caught by the arm, and I will never forget this she says to the girl "let go of me" thin kicks here in the face in to the zomies. funny as hell.

Teenage I loved this. Now that I'm older even if it isn't that good still teenage me loved it.

If you are a series fan, this is a must-have in your collection.

Cartonato, rilegatura a filo, pagine integre (non tagliate ai bordi come nella corrispondente edizione italiana, in cui praticamente manca mezza tavola a ogni pagina). Raccoglie i primi quattro tomi della serie. Sul retro della sovracopertina è stampato il poster del volume 4 standard. Pagato meno di venti euro, mentre scrivo questa recensione il prezzo è quasi raddoppiato, ma vale comunque fino all'ultimo centesimo.

This series is for anyone who likes a half decent Zombie Apocalypse story. Also recommended for anyone who loves good action, and a more than generous dose of T&A, because this series also has that in abundance. I probably don't need to go into the story details, as the product description above seems to have that covered, quite nicely. When I got this book I was pleasantly surprised. The book is is really high quality, a decent read, and makes a great addition to my collection of comics. It's worth the price tag seen here, and absolutely perfect for anyone looking to collect the manga, as it collects the all four of the first four volumes out so far in North America, and beautifully so, in oversized, full-colour pages. The extras are also pretty fun, and impressive, though nearly all of it is filled with cheesecake images that made even me blush a bit, which doesn't happen often. Said cheesecake can also be found in the dust jacket as well, which surprised the heck out of me. Anyway, beyond all the cheesecake, the extras include character profiles, weapons galleries, and an added (presumably non-canon) extra story involving cosplay. So yes, if you like a good zombie series, awesome action sequences, mixed with a generous amount of T&A, this book is for you, even if you're not usually into anime or manga. Though if you're put off by extreme violence, or the aforementioned T&A, or if you just want a straightforward zombie thriller, then this book might not be for you. If you're looking to buy this book, because you saw the anime, then I have good news and bad news. What you see in the anime is basically everything you'll see in this book. So the downside to this is that it doesn't really offer you much more in terms of story. But if you liked the show and want a great hardcover graphic novel as well, this is the one to get. As well as if you bought this book and enjoyed it, consider picking up the DVDs ( Link ) or BluRays ( Link ) for this series as well. All in all I fullheartedly recommend this book. Well worth every penny of this price.
