Singing Lessons for Little Singers: A 3-in-1 Voice, Ear-Training and Sight-Singing Method for Children Review: This is a solid resource and offers sound (pun intended) instructional material suited for young singers - I swore never to teach students this young, when I was a new teacher, right out of college. Never say, "never." I have been assigned a number of young voice students where I teach private lessons and this seems to fill the gap I have encountered searching for materials suitable for the young singing voice. Now I can stop trying to create something appropriate for each and every one of the growing voices in my care. This includes warm-up skills, explanations about phonation and voice registers with age-appropriateness.It also has songs that support these concepts and prepare the student for understanding music notation, ear-training and performance-readiness. Overall I'm quite pleased to start using this source and stop creating my own stuff for each student. This will be a time saver and it is sound instructional material, in my opinion. I intend to have each student/family purchase a copy for use at the lesson and at home to prepare between lessons. Win-Win for families and student alike, and support for me as the teacher. Review: A GOOD TEXT - It's a good text for young, beginning singers. The selection of songs are excellent. I wish some simple rounds had been included in case the text is used for groups, however, there are plenty of round collections available for young singers. Good attention paid to support and breathing skills, vowel formation and posture. I'm a retired vocal coach and choral director, having taught for 40 years. The only thing I would question would be the physical "warm-ups." I didn't find them to be very beneficial during my tenure as a teacher, nor did my colleagues. They were rather disruptive to the rehearsal. Would rather spend that time on vocal warm-ups. I know that is a controversial topic among vocal teachers. Everyone has to do what they think is best for their group. All in all, a good text. I would recommend it.

Helpful for beginner voice students
This has been a helpful book for my beginner voice students (they also take piano from me, so they are getting the theory they need in piano). It is full of helpful vocal tips, a good variety of warm-up pieces. We refer back to the diphthong chart often! I wish they had several more levels!

Helpful singing lessons for young and old alike
A really well written book that has good information for beginning singers of ALL ages. Well thought out lessons and clear instruction with lots of positive ideas. I really enjoy this book and feel it was a worthwhile purchase. Helpful to teach basic music to young children and to learn from myself. Very nice drawings to demonstrate what is being described.

Well put together
This book is well put together with age appropriate exercises and simple songs. I am using it with a young child female singer and her older sibling is accompanying her on the piano from the lead sheets in the book. They can work together at home this way and we are getting extra mileage out of this great book. (By using the simple tunes to teach the older student how to play off of lead sheets as well.) I really appreciate what Gregory Blankenbehier has put together here. It is very helpful for my piano/voice studio with singers of all ages.

Good
I teach voice lessons to adults and young ones and while I don't require a methods book this was great. It gives me ideas on beginners repertoire and keeps my mind focused on the young singer.

Worth the money
LOVE! The songs are short, fun, easy to learn. I use with my 6 year old student and she loves it. They get to pass songs quickly and the book teaches some theory as well as breathing and vowel techniques and solfeggi. I do wish they have more songs to teach the fourth and fifth intervals.

Great book, my daughters singing teacher actually said she needed to buy this certain book. She is a professional teacher and she recommend it so it’s a must have book for little singers starting off! My daughter loves the book and the songs inside, no bad points and I do recommend.

I'm a voice teacher and I love this books especially for younger students. The book is very well written and explains musical concepts in an easy way for kids to understand (especially the ones who don't read music yet). Worth purchasing!

Having just begun teaching children under 7 on a one to one basis, I was a little concerned that my teaching may be above their heads. This extremely well written book full of practical ideas and songs came to my aid and reinforced my own teaching methods and augmented them, giving me a confidence boost that I was on the right track.
