Perfect shell, amazing price. Thatโs great value.
This Key Fob shell worked perfectly for my 2008 Prius, works the exact same as my original fob before I replaced the shell, even fits perfectly into the insert slot in the Prius! All lock buttons continue to have full functionality. I also carved out a recessed spot to glue in the old Toyota logo (not required for use, just a fun touch- does require substantial effort to do so) This fob is built very durably, I dropped it while putting it together and no issues whatsoever. It looks clean and fresh. The shipping was super fast as well. When transferring the innards of the old fob, be sure to transfer the chip, circuit board, battery, the rubber seal from battery opening, and physical key. If youโre unsure of how to do any of this, go ahead and watch a video on YouTube, there are plenty. Also youโll have to physically break open your OEM key fob in order to access the parts since the originalโs halves are glued together. Also Iโd recommend adding a little piece of the plastic bag to the corner where the light is in the corner to block the hole from dust and grime.

Works but be careful
It comes without any instructions, but one can get help in setting up the key fob on the internet. But be careful about the steps involved in moving the circuit board of the old fob to the new one. The steps involved are: 1. Remove the key. This involves sliding a tab on the end where you would hang a house key and pulling the house key. The tab is very tight. 2. Open the tab again and push up on the side without the buttons. You should eventually get it off. 3. Remove the 4 (tiny) screws and the square plastic piece that covers the battery. 4. Remove the battery. 5. Now comes the hard part. It is difficult to open the old fob. I used a knife and pried and had to work the seam open. When you have it open carefully remove the circuit board. 6. This step is not on any of the videos that I watched at one end there is a small trapezoidal piece. Remove it and carefully put it with the circuit board. I didn't do this step at first and when I was done the new fob did everything but start the car. Now it's time to move the circuit board to the new fob. 7. Put the circuit board in the part of the new fob that has the buttons on the other side. You will notice the trapezoid shaped place on the new fob is empty. Put the mystery piece in the same place it was in the circuit board. There is also a little white piece on the old fob that is not on the new one. Put it on the new one. 8. Now attach the piece that holds the battery. It just clicks in place. 9. I would put a new battery in the fob. 10. Using the new screws attach the square plate. 11. Slide the piece with the tab that releases the key into place (this involves holding the tab open while sliding the piece in place. 12. Put the key in the place it was on the old fob. I replaced two fobs in this way. Both were successful after the insertion of the mystery trapezoid. Both would do everything but start the car without it. The new fobs replace old ones where the outside buttons were peeling off. The replacement is very nice, seems robust and will probably out last my 2006 Prius.

Please read
I replaced my 04 Prius key fab which the buttons were worn off on several & not rain tight. Watch a YouTube video of how to take apart the old fab! Remove the key. Remove the back plate. Remove 4 screws to get to the battery. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry apart the old casing and don't be afraid to break it! It's going in the garbage anyways! Be careful getting out the circuit board though & be mindful to not damage it in the process! I recommend installing a new battery while you're in there since it's a little meticulous. The whole process should take 5 minutes or so. Tools needed: flathead screwdriver, pocket knife, & a small precision Philips screwdriver. Replacement fits great. I did use the old back plate from the original since it has the Toyota emblem to differentiate my keys from my other vehicles. Everything looks & functions great! Hope this helps someone! At this price, you can't beat it. Just be careful on the circuit board removal breaking apart the old casing & everything is gravy!

Worked great
The rubberized area on my 2007 Prius key was falling apart and had developed a hole, so it was clear that I'd either need to shell out around $150 for a new key from Toyota or find a way to repair my original key. I bought this because it was inexpensive and, if it worked, I would save a lot of money. I'm pleased to report that it worked great. After reading various reviews, it was clear to me that I'd need to look at some YouTube videos to make sure I understood the process. There are multiple videos out there and the first one I looked at gave me all I needed to know. There were three tricky moments in the process. First, it was extremely difficult to slide the back off my original key. I had to use a tool to hold the sliding pin in the unlocked position and struggle with it for several minutes before it finally got unstuck. Second, the two halves of the original key casing are glued together, so you need to use a knife to get them apart. This wasn't particularly difficult but it required being careful not to cut myself. Third--and this is the only issue I ran into with the new product--when it came time to replace the four screws that hold the battery cover in place, I stripped the threads of one without using excessive force. Fortunately, the other three appear to be enough to hold it in place. This, and the lack of any instructions, are the reasons for giving this product 4 rather than 5 stars. Because the replacement case is virtually identical to the original, I was able to put it back together with my original metal backup key and with the casing panel that has the Toyota logo, rather than using the blank panel that came with the replacement case. Now the only noticeable difference from my original key is that the rubberized area feels a little different: a little stiffer, a little less like natural rubber. But it works perfectly, which is all that matters. I have one lingering concern: Since the two halves of the replacement case snap together securely, it doesn't seem necessary to glue them. Time will tell whether leaving them unglued was a mistake. I've dropped the key a couple of times since and it hasn't popped apart, so hopefully it'll hold.
