Tai Chi for Arthritis and Pain Relief In 1996, Dr Lam with a team of medical and tai chi experts created this safe and easy to learn program. Medical studies confirm Tai Chi for Arthritis relieves pain, reduces falls and improves quality of life, that is why the Arthritis organizations around the world support the program, including the Arthritis Foundation and the Center for Disease Control. What is special about this edition is that you will feel as though you are participating in Dr Lam s class. After a brief introduction of what Tai Chi for Arthritis is and how this DVD can benefit you, Dr Lam will teach you with step-by-step instructions, lead you to practice and explain the reason behind every move. At the conclusion of the DVD Dr Lam will demonstrate the set from both front and back views to the music composed exclusively for this DVD! Combining a decade of teaching and research experience, Dr Lam revises the warm up exercises and presents new movement sequences in an innovative teaching format in these 12 real time lessons. Dr Lam also explains classical tai chi principles to enhance your understanding and enjoyment. Review: Easy to follow, well explained movements, highly recommended - I'd read that Tai Chi is beneficial for Fibromyalgia, and wanted a DVD I could follow at home. Some of the reviews said they found Dr Lam's teaching far too slow and boring, and some didn't finish the course. I love his teaching method; he explains Tai Chi, the movements and the breathing, so that that you learn at a steady pace and with a deeper understanding of the gentle, smooth flow of Tai Chi. As he says, there's no hurry in Tai Chi. I am really enjoying learning Tai Chi with Dr Lam. Review: Pain free exercise - Excellent DVD, very easy to follow and broken down into easily absorbable chunks. Took a couple of days to get used to moving so slowly. I work in exercise referral and have been using the warm up routine to increase rotational flexibility in the spine and develop balance, leg strength and correct walking patterns. The slow repetitive nature of the exercise allows clients to concentrate on movement patterns by perfecting their balance and control without pain.

Excelent DVD
this product is exactly as I expected .I am very pleased with it and it will be a good back up for the Tai chi course that I am doing . The explanations and demos of the moves are very good and easy to follow . I would recomend this DVD for any person tacking a beginers course of Tai chi . I will shortly be looking for a more advanced set of lessons to keep up my fitness level . I am recovering from a spinal injury and this exercise is very helpfull and I have tried quite a few . I would only use this type of DVD if I had or was going to have a proper course in this style of Tai chi . I think you need an instructor to follow who can answer an questions you have while under going your lessons .

Tai Chi for arthritis.
I have only just started watching this dvd (lesson 1) but I am already finding it of great value. I have had one lesson at our local Sports Centre (which I will attend once a week) and find this dvd invaluable to carry on learning at home. Dr Lam is so calming and encouraging. The lessons are slow, but it really helps me get into the mind set for learning Tai Chi at a slow and steady pace. Follow his instructions to the letter and you will benefit from them. I decided to get the arthritis lessons as I have a slight hip problem and wanted to do the exercises before it got any worse. I already feel it will help me a good deal.

Artritis Exercise for the Terrified
Because of pain in the joints people with Athritis are reluctant to engage in any exercise and walking, the simple form of exercise is often painful. I discovered Dr Lam's DVD by accident looking at various forms of martial arts on the internet. It is simple to follow, well thought out for Arthritics, does not put much pressure on the joints and after only one week exercising my hip and leg joints I was steadier with my balance and the joints felt easier. I love it. Karate for 70 year olds I realise is in your dreams but it would have been fun.

Would not run
DVDs returned. One disk would not run on my laptop or my TV DVD player, the other would only run sometimes on my laptop, but not on my TV DVD player.

Highly recommended
I am an arthritis sufferer and have found this to be extremely helpful. I have been to Tai Chi classes and have found them very expensive as I have to pay for taxi's due to my disability on top of the fees. One class I attend also required a membership fee. I can do this at home and find Dr Lam to be very calming while you are watching the DVD. The steps are very easy to follow. I reckon this would be great for other disabilities too; and the elderly.

At last, an exercise I want to do
Very well made. Each move is carefully and systematically taught and you can learn at your own pace. I love it and that is the first time I have been able to say that about any form of exercise. Already I feel better and I am hoping my early stage arthritis will be helped. It's early days as this is an art which takes quite a time to master, but I'm very optimistic given how it's gone so far. (According to Dr Michael Moseley's experiment in his television programme, Tai Chi can deliver as great a benefit as Zumba - got to be good as I find it tiring even watching others do Zumba!)

This is a good product to follow at your own pace - I researched Dr. Lam's products which ranked high; he has a very gentle way of teaching and repeats his steps so that you can follow easily. I recommend this product.

I was looking for help to exercise for balance. Tai Chi was recommended by a friend and I bought this to try at home. I'm happy with his explanations and the soft approach. For me it is for consciousness and control and I will persevere.

I needed this DVD as support for my Tai Chi lessons. Just what I needed, although perhaps had to wait a little longer because it originally came from the UK. However it arrived. Just one little complaint, the folder holding the DVD's was a little damaged and they could not be fixed, but nothing damaged. I could supply my own CD container.

I absolutely adore this DVD and Dr. Lam. This is by far one of the best instructional programs I have ever used for any subject. It is well organized and easy to navigate. The instruction from Dr. Lam is exceptionally well delivered. He breaks everything down into simple small steps that are well explained and easy to understand and follow. Each lesson includes a short welcome, a warmup, a review of previous movements, instruction in new movements for that lesson, a run through of all the movements taught so far,* and a cool down. One thing I really appreciate about this DVD is that Dr. Lam shows the movements both from the front and back views. This is incredibly helpful in getting the left/right motions down. When the whole class practices, the students face the camera, while Dr. Lam has his back to the camera, so you get both views. At the end of each of the two DVDs is a full demonstration of all the moves taught in the program, shown both from the front and the back. I found it very helpful to follow Dr. Lam in the back view demonstration for several weeks to really cement the movements into my mind. The back view feature takes all the pressure off of trying to mirror the instructions and keeping left and right straight in my mind. I can't say enough good of Dr. Lam himself. He is a warm, caring, knowledgeable and entertaining instructor, and the way he moves through the program is beautiful, graceful and inspiring. He talks about moving as though you are pushing against gentle resistance, and it is amazing to watch him--you can actually see what he means about the resistance as he moves. The students are accomplished and capable too. The students in the class are all older men and women, and one gentleman demonstrates the movements sitting down. Dr. Lam gives just the right amount of safety tips and includes some metaphors and hints to make learning the movements easier. There are no kicks or deep knee bends in this program. It is very gentle and fluid. That being said, I would recommend this DVD to anyone who wants to learn TaiChi, regardless of age or physical issues. It is excellent instruction for everyone and a wonderful place to start learning this fantastic martial art form. *the first DVD features the basic forms, and second DVD features the extension movements. Unfortunately, only the first lesson on the second DVD includes a review of all of the basic movements from the first DVD. I suspect that it is because of limited space on the DVD. Not a real problem though, since the entire sequence is included in the demonstrations, which you can access from the main menu. Once I practiced the extension movements with the class, I navigated to the demonstration to practice all of the movements in sequence.
