Anyone have a long term review of this? Durability? Parts availability?

It’s a Makita! I’ve trimmed our Photinia hedge (about 150’ long, 7’ high) twice a year for the past 3 years…….and it works like new! One of the best tools I have ever invested in!

Will this work to cut cattails?

I believe it would. We have cut forsythias and burning bushes with this many times. It has been a great tool for us.

Are the blades replaceable or may they be removed for sharpening?

I suspect you could purchase replacement blades from Makita. It would seem that it would take forever to sharpen by hand and almost impossible keep the proper cutting angle.
