In the summer, it's very easy to wear a kilt bare-legged; in the winter, it gets a little chilly... and regular tights/stockings are a bit too dressy-looking with a kilt, IMO. The waistband doesn't feel like a rubber band cutting me off at the torso, but it still stays in place without me needing to hike it up all day.
