Kala Jeera! Finally
There's definitely a mix-up when recipes call for black cumin. They usually mean kala jeera, but nigella seeds are also called black cumin occasionally. They are not interchangeable (at least not in the recipes I use) and I've had great experience with the Rani company's pastes and whole spices like green and black cardamom and fenugreek seeds, and I'm similarly happy with this purchase.

The seeds are of just cumin, regular culinary cumin. Good kitchen cumin but not black cumin seeds.

This is not Kala jeera!!
This is not kala jeera!!! Are you kidding me? Kala jeera is black and looks kind of like sesame seeds. This product is not it at all.

Good quality Kala Jeera
Rani brand Kala Jeera is wonderful and authentic. I always knew it as Shah Jeera. It is added to biryanis, Pilafs, and kebabs ; but I also season my lentils with it. I use a combination of Jeera or Cummin, kala Jeera or Black Cummin, and Saunf or Fennel seeds to season daals for a delicious effect. Thank you Rani Brand. I had exhausted my stock of Shah Jeera and local stores did not carry it.. I like this quality.
