This is another superb addition to the Spanish branch of the series. For any language basic grammar needs to be learned, but it is dry and only serves as a background for conversation and understanding. Most people speak less formally than they write and in some languages like French one almost has to learn two separate languages. So many times conversation has "fillers," idioms, or phrases that don't appear in textbooks and until one learns them one has trouble following a conversation or even following all but the most formal writing. This book, like the others in the series, shows you how it all fits together and allows you to communicate with people and understand how language is used in the context of telling a story or simply getting or relaying information in everyday situations. And, while Spanish is an international language, it has its regional variances and idioms as anyone from Spain (or speaking Castilian Spanish) who has used the word coger to mean take in Mexico quickly learns. Mexican Spanish serves as a reminder that there are differences between Castilian and Mexican (and South American) Spanish.
